Interesting! ...but they haven't updated the "Last Opportunity" page, yet. Last year, the 2011 Silver Quarter sets didn't come out until April...now they're coming out on Jan 17th. Last year, the full Silver Proof set came out on Jan 25th. The Mint is likely more prepared this year than last and will have everything ready to go on Jan 2nd. I suspect the Quarter production fell a bit behind last year and they needed all their Silver Quarter sets for the full Silver Proof sets...or the Quarter set packaging wasn't ready...who knows? I don't know why they wouldn't be released around the same time as last year. My "guess" is that they we'll see the 2012 Silver Proof set announcement in a week or so. On page 44 of the December 12th issue of Coin World, the Mint has a half page ad for the Proof (QB5) and Silver Proof (SV5) America the Beautiful™ Quarter sets. The bold headline says..."DON'T GET LEFT OUT!". Since you can still get these sets in the full Proof sets, my "guess" is that the full sets will be ending soon after the Quarter sets. ...but that's just a guess. It would be nice to know for sure. EDIT: I was looking at the 2012 schedule wrong...I thought it only went to Jan 23rd...but that's Feb 23rd!! If that schedule is correct, the Full Silver Proof sets will be delayed AT LEAST a month. That gives the 2010 sets new life as possibly being the KEY DATE!!
It's Tuesday. It's update day. It's quiet. Too quiet. Anybody out there? Yakpoo? Time to rally the troops and get us fired up again this week. Let's talk FREE MONEY!
Holy Cannoli !! Just a little over two (2) weeks left and the TOTAL sales of 2010 Silver Proof sets is 100,000 LESS than the 1995 Silver Proof sets...WOW!! :rolling: Sales of the 2010 Silver Proof sets picked up a bit (as expected), but the 2011 Silver Proof set sales actually dropped! That may be due to the Mint's lack of an announcement for the release of the 2012 Silver Proof sets. I had expected the 2012 release to be about the same time as the release of the 2011 sets (25 January)...afterall, the whole reason for changing the release date was to move it up to the beginning of the year!! The Mint released their Product Schedule through 23 February 2012; they're releasing the 2012 ATB Silver Proof "Quarter" sets on 10 January 2012, but not a peep about the 2012 Silver Proof sets. This can only mean one thing!!! ...the Mint produced too many of the 2011 Silver Proof sets and they need to keep them on sale a bit longer. Let's assume that sales of the 2010 Silver Proof sets spike in the next two (2) weeks and final sales figures come in around 585,000 (still Crazy Low!!)...and the 2011 Silver Proof sets stay on sale into March 2012 (12 weeks from now) with average sales of 5,000/week...that would bring the final sales figures for the 2011 Silver Proof set to around 586,000. That would mean the 2010 sets would win the Key Date race! :hail: Silver Proof set sales as of 13 December, 2011... 2010 Silver Proof Set sales: 930 for a total of 579,774 2011 Silver Proof Set sales: 8,834 for a total of 526,143 The lowest mintage of any modern Silver Proof set was 1995 (679,984). The average weekly sales figures for 2010 sets needed by the end of the year (2 weeks left) to equal that mintage is... 2010 Silver Proof Set: (679,984 – 579,774) / 2 = 50,105 The average weekly sales figures for 2011 sets needed by the end of January 2011 (6 weeks left*) to equal that mintage are... 2011 Silver Proof Set: (679,984 – 526,143) / 6 = 25,640 * Who knows?
Silver is tanking. This can't be good for 2010 silver proof set sales as we head in to the final two weeks. And if it gets worse there won't be time for repricing.
It's one of those things that, well, you just don't know. Only time will tell I guess. I thought maybe with the Christmas season here sales for both might be way up there. But on the other hand, maybe people are spending their money on other types of gifts. I did find a dealer the other day that said he would sell me the lense that contained the Kennedy, dime, nickel, Sacagawea and cent from the 2011 S Silver Proof set. So, I bought one. Cost $30. The next couple of weeks should be interesting as far as sales numbers.
That's the big question we're all asking. Soon I hope. Looking now like sales may run into March or whenever they are sold out. It's all dependent on how many were made. The mint hasn't announced when the 2012 sets are scheduled to be released yet. The 2010 set availability ends the last of this month.

This week's sales report isn't out yet, but I couldn't contain my enthusiasm!! Just think...in a mere ten (10) days, the NEW KEY DATE Roosevelt Dime and Kennedy Half will enter the record books; Nearly 100,000 less than the nearest rival (1995). Sure, 2011 has lower sales at the moment...but just wait! The Mint is "supposed" to stop selling the 2011 Silver Proof sets when the 2012 sets go on sale, but when is that gonna be?! It should have been on January 25th, but the Mint has posted its planned releases through the end of February and still no 2012 Silver Proof sets. The 2012 Silver Proof "Quarter" sets go on sale on January 13th...which may quench collector's (Flipper's) thirst for the new quarter designs...but what about the lowly Roosevelt dimes and Kennedy Halves? I suspect the Mint produced too many of the 2011 sets and they want to sell as many as possible before releasing the 2012 sets. This would mean that once everyone realizes what a fantastic event has occurred with the 2010 sets, there will be a mad dash to suck up the 2011 sets...leaving the 2010 sets as the REIGNING KEY DATE!!! How often do you have a chance to buy a Key Date before it becomes the Key Date?
Soon, I will complete my order for 110,000 2010's. I can corner this market, yes I can! But seriously, buy first from your local coin shop guys...don't add needlessly to those sales figures.
I always buy two of these sets each year specifically for the dime and 1/2. Got mine when they were $56. I wonder if they will put those abomination $ coins in next year's set?
I bought one of the 2010 sets at my local shop for 55 dollars, I think it was 55. I was going to pick up a set from the mint but the local shop beat their price.
Good Point!! :thumb: ...besides, you might get someone's returns from the Mint, but you can see what your buying from your Dealer.
Silver Proof set sales as of 20 December, 2011... 2010 Silver Proof Set sales: 1,071for a total of 580,845 2011 Silver Proof Set sales: 6,735for a total of 532,787 The lowest mintage of any modern Silver Proof set was 1995 (679,984). The average DAILY sales figures for 2010 sets needed by the end of the year (10 Days left) to equal that mintage is... 2010 Silver Proof Set: (679,984 – 580,845) / 10 = 9,914 The average weekly sales figures for 2011 sets needed by the end of February 2011 (10 weeks left? *) to equal that mintage are... 2011 Silver Proof Set: (679,984 – 532,787) / 10 = 14,718 * Who knows? If the 2011 sets sell an average of just 5,000 sets per week through the end of February 2012, the 2010 sets will likely retain its status as the KEY DATE!!! :hail:
thinking of ordering 23-25 sets of the 2010 ...hope I don't break the bank on 2010 being a key date...seems when I do something a million other people seem to try to beat me to it...
I'm not sure if these sets will be a "Flipper's Delight" immediately. The 2011 sets still have lower sales numbers (at the moment) and the 2012 sets haven't gone on sale, yet. There's probably a lot of people out there that think this is the "New Normal" and sales will continue to decline. I think the opposite. I think this was a unique event caused by a poor economy, dropping silver prices and an overlapping of products due to the shift in US Mint sales schedule. This "Perfect Storm" of events has caused ultra low sales figures that we won't see again for another 20 twenty years (if at all...imho). Another factor that might depress prices in the short term is "Distribution". There hasn't been any "Per Household" restrictions so there are likely large numbers of sets concentrated in fewer hands. Poor distributions "seems" to lead to lower prices...when demand goes up, folks with extra sets meet the demand. It's only later, once the sets become distributed, that prices increase. I originally predicted a final sales number for the 2010 Silver Proof set of about 585,000. We'll likely finish just south of that number. Weekly sales figures for the 2010 Silver Proof sets since the beginning of November 2011... 01 Nov: 468 08 Nov: 810 15 Nov: 438 22 Nov: 674 29 Nov: 625 06 Dec: 791 13 Dec: 930 20 Dec: 1071 Sales have increased about 150/week since the beginning of December. Given the Christmas season (folks spending $$ on other things), low silver prices, and 2011 sets with even lower sales numbers...I would be surprised to see a final sales number greater than 583,000...that's still a NEW RECORD by 97,000!!! The big question is what effect the "buzz" around the 2010 sales figures will do to sales of the remaining 2011 sets. In the past, whenever a new sales record is set, the "buzz" increases sales for the next year's product. If the Mint has created enough 2011 sets, they "could" sell more than the 2010's. It will be fun to watch what happens!
I think the sales figures for the 2010 set will increase dramatically this next week and a half, I noticed that the news of the 2010 sales ending on the 30th, is splashed on every coin blog on the internet. So probably folks will rush to get them while they can. I just wonder how many people really, really know though how low these sales figures actually are for both the 2010 and 2011 sets and what it means. I doubt very few dealers know what's going on let alone "John Q. Public." I may have made a big "BOO-BOO" because I was leaning towards the 2011 set as being the key. Thus, I've invested a sum of money in the 2011 project I've been working on putting together. But, hey, that's coin collecting. Right or wrong, I'm still having alot of fun doing what I'm doing. If we just knew when the 2011's were scheduled to end. But, like Yakpoo says "WHO KNOWS"?
