    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

In my opinion, I don't think so. Once the market absorbs the temporary glut, there will still be buyers, there will still be a demand, and the prices will rise again. Maybe not to record heights, but they will rise.

I think there was an underestimation of the effects of falling bullion prices on the mentality of people looking to collect modern coins that have a high numismatic premium. I suppose it threw a wrench in a lot of plans having to do with these coins and flipping for quick profit.

The supply of collectors willing to pay steep prices to get sets early has been exhausted.
Now it is the folks willing to pay intermediate prices getting theirs.
Next it will be the patient bottom feeders turn.

Very much so to a "stacker". Quite frankly I don't see why silver, slipping a few bucks, would have any effect upon this issue. My take on it is that the hype (finally) has ended and we're going to see the true measure of value in this set before long.

I might be a stacker but I still appreciate nice bullion and coins and look for coins that will be worth more than melt. I just try to buy them as close to melt as possible and have them appreciate in value after I've bought them.....I did just pay a nice premium on a 1/20th ounce Koala platinum coin against my rules, but it makes me happy so it was worth the extra $30 over melt.

I just wonder why people are in such a hurry to sell the sets even with the price going lower and lower. I myself plan on waiting for price to go back up before selling 1 of my 3 sets and since I'm pretty young can wait a long time.

I'm sure several people over extended themselves trying to make fast money on a sure thing. Now those credit cards are coming due and their money is still tied up. They want out because they need money for other things. So any profit is better than just sitting on the coins.

Yes, think about all those boxes of 5 sets that sold around $4k. They will be lucky to get their money back now. I sold some, and bought some OGP as prices fell (should have waited), and I still have a full set of 70's, some assorted 70's and 69's, and a couple sets in OGP, and I am basically even so I think I did great. It would have been nice to make thousands, but my goal was just to have free sets and I do. I will wait a while now and see what prices are like next year.

Well said. It's the classic problem of using leverage to make a fast buck. If the plans don't work out you get burnt. The same sort of move is what pushed MF Global into bankruptcy. I should imagine that running a balance on a credit card, something I haven't done in many many years, has become a legal license for a bank to completely shake you down.

I said this back on order day for those who scored 5 sets. "The good news is you bought 5 sets. The bad news is you bought 5 sets." As in you better sell them fast.

Even if the credit card bill is due, I don't see the urgency to sell. Hard to believe anyone would be over extended on 5 sets at $1,500. So what if you have to make a few minimum payments, while waiting for the sets to dry up. Minimal interest will be paid and the seller should be rewarded for waiting.

My guess is if they are using credit cards and are over extending them that they are not the best at money management in the first place.

Well, I did manage to pay most of the debt off from the proceeds of two raw sets. Two to go (I'm keeping one) but I don't expect to see nearly as much as I realized with the first two. Don't care a lick as "Daddy" needs some money for FUN.......:)

    Tell me about it!
At this time I might be only buying 1980's mint sets :hail:

But if they are over extended to start with, this will put them in a deeper hole, and they may be getting collection calls besides. If they were thinking of getting their money back with some extra dollars as well, this may have been their stratagy to help pay off their overall debt. They may not have the ability to wait any longer. They took a chance and they are happy with what they can get, not with how much they can get.

Guano, I still see these A25 sets going for $600. Why would you be jumping up and down all the junk silver lost 10 percent?
