Where's the best place to buy ASE's?

With the recent pull back in silver I want to get into some ASE's. This will be my first purchase of ASE's as I have been waiting for the price to come back and now it has.

I have looked around locally and online. I have narrowed it down to two sites:

    goldmart.com
    providentmetals.com

GoldMart quotes $2.79 over spot for 2011 and earlier coins. The current quote is $33.79 per coin with silver at $31. Their shipping, if paid by credit card, is $53 and if you pay with cash it's $15. Their cash total is $1,367.55. Per coin price is $34.19 or $3.19 over spot.

ProvidentMetals $34.14 if paid by cash and $35.16 if paid by credit card and their shipping is only $11.95. Their cash total is $1,370.75. Per coin price is $34.27 or $3.27 over spot.

As you can see their prices are almost identical. Can I do better with another company? I was hoping for a price closer to $2 over spot. Is $2 over spot unrealistic for these coins? Does it matter what year coin I get? I know the older years have a higher premium. Should I worry about that or just go with the newer coins which are currently cheaper? I'm really in this for the long term investment and not a short term flip.

I currently have plenty junk silver (dimes, quarters and halves). I also have enough Morgan's and some generic silver rounds. I really want to beef up my bullion portion and really think the ASE's are the way to go.

Any advice on where to buy and what to buy, in your opinion, is greatly appreciated.

well $2 over spot would be great but there's one problem with that now...that being that the mint raised the premiums on ASE's back in mid-late part of 2010...think it went to $2.50 each or might be more...I forget...but anyways...what you found is a decent deal...you might be able to find a better deal elsewhere but also buying in bulk more then 1 roll at a time would also be you a better deal too!

I had no idea that the mint raised their premium. I also was planning on buying at least two rolls but with silver still dropping, now below $30, I might go for three rolls.

I just checked with one of my local coin shops and their price for silvers eagles, less than 100, is $3.19 over spot. This seems like the most logical solution for me. I pay how I wish and walk away with coins in hand.

I like mintproducts.com because they have always sent me a flawless or near flawless coin. The ASEs from other places are frequently dinged-up a bit from handling or resale. They may not have the lowest price, and I know the general opinion is that condition doesn't matter on a bullion coin, but it matters to me and someday after the majority of ASEs out there have been melted, mishandled, cracked out, etc... the remaining coins in pristine condition may sell at a premium even if they don't now.

Apmex is at $32.90 right now, but changing by the minute with the spot market still open.
There shipping is a little high at times.

I've bought from goldeneaglecoins.com before and I've liked them.

If there are any coin shows in your area, I recommend heading there. There are always dealers selling bullion so it's a good place to wheel and deal. The online vendors don't negotiate, but the dealers at the shows do.

I just looked at all of those sites, and they all charge as much or more than my local store, when you figure in shipping. So if you live in a larger city, I'd definitely use my fingers to do the walking ;)

I found an individual that just ordered a jumbo box from the mint and has extra rolls. He is asking $4 over spot for these in the original mint tubes, unopened. I know it's a slight premium over the other options but they are unopened and in perfect condition.

That's what I would do. It's always gonna be best to buy locally but shop around first. $3.19 over spot is only good because of what you're comparing it against. I usually get the coin shops to drop their price a little better. Like two dollars above spot or $3.00 tops. You never know until you try. Oh and don't mention ebay, that may get something thrown at ya. :D

I agree with checking your local shop first and foremost. If you are going to buy online I'd recommend Tulving if you plan on buying enough to meet their minimum, but it's more for bulk. I've never bought from GoldMart but they seem to be the cheapest.
