Here is the lowest I have seen yet!!! 2011 1oz AMERICAN SILVER EAGLE 25th Anniversary Set PF/MS70 (5 coins all NGC) The **PERFECT** Silver Coin XMAS Gift! Item condition: -- Ended: Dec 07, 201110:00:54 PST Bid history: 20 bids Winning bid: US $1,001.00
I took a gamble yesterday and picked up a 70 S mint. The price was just over what ungraded coins were going for a few weeks ago, and it is the only coin I need to complete a 70 set. I will get it and keep the set for a year or so. I can't sell it at these prices, nor any of the other coins so they will go in the safe for a while. Hopefully when the 1400 or so auctions end the prices will stabilize. Perhaps the collectors are staying away due to the run-up in price and the hype, but I think they will be back when things calm down. There are too many people trying to dump their "speculation" sets and the prices are down from it. With only 100k made, these should still do very well in the future.
$1299 BIN for a set of 70's thats lower than what 69's were going for last month. I'm glad I kept mine in the OGP http://www.ebay.com/itm/2011-SILVER...ultDomain_0&hash=item3a6da72b43#ht_666wt_1398
Todays fact: There are more people in China with investable income than the total population of America and the Chinese government encourages gold and silver investments....Conclusion: 100k isn't a low mintage in the Panda series, sure the **** isn't for an American coin either. This has been a public service announcement
$1249? Quite a drop from this: I said many many posts back the ones who make money in a market being driven by flippers will be the ones that get in and get out fast. Seems to me the expense of acquiring a full graded 70 set for resale really isn't worth it.
Forgetting that the Chinese are more interested in gold than in silver, you are attempting to equate a bullion investment to a numismatic investment. They are not the same. I'm not sure that even in a country of a billion people, there are going to be many that will be willing to spend these kinds of sums on a set that as a bullion value of just $160. Your PSA needs some work.
I had told myself a few weeks back that I would be a buyer of the 25[SUP]th[/SUP] Anniversary NGC70 sets at $1,200 (4 x the original set Mint issue price). However, taking into account that there appears to be a large number of graded sets yet to hit the market (TPG backlog, etc…), and that the prices have been falling so fast, I’m now thinking that $900 (3 x the original issue price) will be the floor...and where a big buy move would be justified.
Chinese like both gold and silver and were net importers of both this year. Of course they don't want to spend money on boring ASE unless they're buying monster boxes because the premium is cheaper than Pandas. Pandas have more demand, less supply and look better. The population stats of MS70 ASE 25 sets are not looking good at all from a collectors standpoint
I'm not sure if investing fundamentals apply to old rare coins. but I'm glad we have you bullion investors around to keep us (coin collectors) in check when it comes to modern coins (bullion) like the 25th eagle set. a big thanks
Since when does a party have to be one or the other? There is no reason that a bullion investor can't be a coin collector and vice versa. The real issue here is one of common sense and knowing when something is being driven up quickly in price by speculators looking to gain a fast buck. It doesn't matter if one is in either camp. Bullion investors got burnt earlier this year by thinking that silver was going to hit $80/ounce by the end of the year. Now we have the same thing where people are predicting wild rates of return for the 25th anniversary set. These are nice coins but they are not worth anywhere near the prices that people were projecting for them. The results of Ebay prove this out. i.e. the only vast money to be made by the flippers, like any flip, will be the ones who get in first and get out.
