That is a plastic box not metal.
And it had nothing to do with what they thought you'd or anyone would store it in.
They send them in a cardboard container every time unless you pay for the plastic one I'm told.

The NGC plastic box is very nice and it also holds PCGS slabs. The PCGS box is too small for NGC slabs.

But the PCGS box does fit the PCGS slabs perfectly :)

I sent my 5 sets (25 coins) to PCGS for grading and they came back in 2 of the PCGS blue boxes, no extra charge.

NGC does charge for their boxes (you order them separately at $6 each plus $13 shipping for up to 10 boxes) and PCGS does provide the boxes for free but you pay PCGS $32 for each First Strike coin vs $17 for a NGC Early Release - plus NGC (imho) grades moderns must more consistently (and better) than PCGS with better customer service all around. It's not much of a decision for me.

Was really hoping that NGC would post some initial population reports today on their website... Unfortunately nothing - maybe next Monday (they only update on Mondays)...

why I got 69 on bullion, burnished S and 2 reversed proof P

Four coins out of the 25 coins (1 bullion, 1 burnished S and 2 reversed proof P) were graded at 69 on my first NGC submission. I think the photos below confirm why I did not get perfect grand slam. They were taken at ~50 magnification.

Below is an example of bullion NGC MS70 - it deserves a 70!

David, First Strike is optional at PCGS and is an extra $18 per coin. I chose not to pay for that option, so I got my coins graded at PCGS for $14 per coin, which is less than NGC's price and I still got the 2 blue boxes for free :)

I've looked at quite a few of the 25th Anniversary Set coins in both PCGS and NGC holders and if I were buying a set for my personal collection sight unseen, I'd be much more comfortable relying upon the PCGS grades vs. NGC. I would never buy an NGC PF70 or MS70 w/o inspecting it in hand first. On the other hand, I do not object to your comments regarding PCGS customer service.

I know we both have our opinions, I would rather use NGC because of their customer service and because I find their grades to be more accurate (but that is just my preference). I switched from PCGS mostly because David Hall was quite dismissive and rude to me at the Long Beach Coin Show a couple years back, and have been very happy with NGC ever since.

Of course you are right, First Strike is optional and had I submitted to PCGS I would not have chosen it either - every set was a First Strike as PCGS defines it, and it just seems silly to spend an extra $18 for an additional line on the label.

Nice results - can I ask how long it took NGC to grade from receipt to posting grades?

Does anyone know how often, and at what time(S) NGC updates their tracking site?
My order has been listed as received for two days now.

I don't know my membership is the one you get when you are a member of the ANA, so technically I'm not a member of NGC.
