No devils pact. It sounds like your reasons are reasonable and you understand the conditions of the market sentiment. Let us know what you get back in the way of grades.

Thank you for the thorough replies. I really appreciate it. Although I have collected coins for a couple years, I have never slabbed anything. What does it cost to join PCGS or NGC? Would I be better off submitting through a dealer?

The reason I was in a rush was because I was going to send a set off to NGC and know their deadline is next Thursday. Also, it seems like people are getting more 70's from them. Also, I was holding out hope that the sets sent out later were actually the earlier strikes, if that is how the Mint stacked them up. But, I am probably dreaming.

I know I am keeping at least one set for me and one for my newborn son, and I realize that I will make money, no matter what, but I just want to make sure I am not doing anything stupid.

    Thanks again for your help!

Just spoke with NGC receiving - they are currently (Friday 12/2) opening up boxes received on Saturday 11/26 and have about two pallets to go from Saturday's delivery. They are swamped with submissions but getting through them as quickly as possible. Great customer service as always!

Mine were received at NGC on Saturday the 26th, too. My invoice isn't up on their site yet. I'll keep checking.

Mine were signed for by NGC Tuesday 11/22 and shown as "received" 11/30. No change as of 12/2 but do see a pending credit card charge for the grading fee on my credit card today.

I finally did it. I didn't think that I would, but I sent it off to NGC this week. I'll let you know how they do.

You can put coins of each type on one line with quantity (in your case probably 5). So you would only use 5 lines on the invoice. Check back through the thread and you will see the answers to your questions or go to NGC forum under ASK NGC and they have a picture of how it should look.

I was wondering what you guys thought of the Mercanti label, in terms of what added value it is bringing on Ebay/the secondary market. I am pretty new to this - has this option been around for a while?

For me, the Mercanti label actually reduces the overall value. Did you even know who Mercanti was before they started with these autographed labels??? I didn't and I'm sure most collectors didn't either (even those who collect the Silver Eagle series). I believe collectors would rather have a plain PCGS label that will better match the rest of their collection.

I was charged for the grading on Thrusday. Does that mean my coins are shipping soon? I am ANA so I can't track online... Also, how much are they charging in addition to the $1 for the return shipping on the boxes. Thanks in Advance!

Is NGC returning the 25th's in a NGC storage box ?

In my case, they didn't send it in that metal box but in a paper box instead. Maybe because NGC knew that we are going to place them inside the Mint box - oh yeah, the blue box from the Mint fits perfectly for the 5 slabbed coins - I wish I could take a picture of my sets. Maybe later.

ps: charging the battery for my camera now ;-)
