I sent my five boxes to NGC today using UPS....yes (5) boxes with one set in each. When I ordered mine I thought at
the time I would open one and leave the rest sealed, boy did that cost not only the seperate mint shipping but also
when I decided to get them graded I had to send five BIG boxes in one big box $$$$
I can't wait to get them back!!!

That's a great way to go if you do not think you'll have any coins other than these sets to send in. However, if you think you'll be sending additional coins thru out the year, I would suggest you join NGC and take advantage of their 5 "free" submissions, which is essentially 5 submissions for the price of 4 but you also have access to their entire database which is growing quite rapidly, including auction data, in an effort to compete with PCGS's CoinFacts. But unlike PGCS, NGC throws it in for free along with membership. I suspect in time PCGS will also have to follow suit but for the time being, NGC has the better option.

PCGS is accepting the sets at the Baltimore Whitman Coin Show - http://www.whitmanexpo.com/contentPages/Main_Baltimore.aspx

At the Baltimore Show the PCGS cost to grade an unopened box of five sets of coins with First Strike designation is almost double the cost of the same sets
being graded by NGC with the free Early Release label. (see opening post by david2400: " . . . For a full box of 5 sets/25 coins, it would cost $387.95 for modern service or $837.95 for the FS labels. If you want on-site grading, you save the $29.95 shipping. . . . "
IMO, NGC really dropped the ball on this one by not accepting the sets at the show. I will probably send my unopened five sets to NGC.

OK... they are off - sent my sets Registered Priority Mail to NGC today! It will probably be 7-10 days before they show up in Sarasota (I am in Calif), and I will probably be on pins and needles until the show up in the NGC system as being received, but I had to get them out of my house or the temptation to open might have been impossible to resist.

Is anybody using FedEx or UPS to send their coins to NGC?

No, NGC accepts only USPS (something about only USPS can deliver to a PO box)

    Thanks.

I believe NGC needs a major makeover. At the Baltimore Whitman show there was an almost continuous line at the PCGS BOOTH. Meanwhile, a lot of the time, there was nothing happening at the NGC booth. I've got a serious storage problem so I'm going to send in sealed box of 5 sets to NGC.

I used FedEx to send my coins to NGC. It's correct you can't send the coins to a PO Box but I do have the actual address for NGC if you need it.

You can send Fedex but they won't insure coins, so it's at your own risk.

Mine just went to Quality Control today. Hopefully I will know on Friday. I am anxious! With the price differential, I am tempted to sell all 5 graded sets and pick up some ungraded sets on ebay (I like mine in OPG). I guess it will depend on what the final grades are though.

You will have your grades posted this afternoon. Good luck!!!

Thanks, that would be great but I'm not optimistic (or I don't want to drive myself nuts) because my status was still Scheduled for Grading as of 8am this morning, and when I checked at lunch it was in QC. Hopefully you are right though.

Does anyone know how long the return shipping takes once they change the status?

I just looked up the census.
Seems as though PCGS is putting out 70% to 80% graded at 70.
NGC is not breaking out totals yet.

Is that for the 25th sets, or just the individual 25th coins? The results I saw on other chat boards are pretty bad, with a box of 5 sets not even making one full set of 70's. There were also several 68s and some 67s.

I'm in CA and in my many past dealings with NGC it usually only takes 4 to 5 business days. So I'm thinking my order should be here either Tuesday or Wed next week. But there is the wild card that is Reg mail. I had a package sent from NJ (CAC) that was insured for the full $25k and it took 2 1/2 weeks to arrive. Talk about climbing up the walls. I had convinced myself that it was gone and I'd never see it again and was waiting for the 28 day (I think it's 28 days) period before I could file a claim. But as I learned the hard way, Reg mail can take a crazy long time to arrive but is seldom lost or stolen.

My original post overestimated the %'s, but these accurate %'s are not too bad, either.

From PCGS census report as of the time of post

I hope NGC starts posting POPs soon. It'd be nice to see their averages.

FYI. NGC closes at the end of business today and will not reopen again until Monday, November 28.

Doh! Guess I am waiting until Monday then. They beat my expectation for grading by several days so I guess I am ok with having to wait over the 4-day weekend to find out the grades. If not for 5 pounds of turkey, I'm not sure I would be able to sleep this weekend. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

Ok, just checked and they are in (you were right DW). I have to admit, it was not as great as I had hoped. No 70's in the S mint coin, and a 67! 11 of them came in at 70, including 3 RP's. I am very surprised that I got 3 70's in the regular bullion, but no S mints. Now I have to figure out how to sell them since there aren't any complete 70 sets.
