Yup. The investor side of me thinks the more the merrier as I keep my own set intact in OGP and wait to sell my sealed sets. The collector side of me winces a little at seeing so many of these beautiful sets ripped apart and/or entombed for the sake of a label.

modern coin mart was 949 just days ago...........now they're selling them for 1199

 

the smart money is sitting tight for a week or two.

"If opened sets in OGP start consistently selling for $1,000 then Im a seller too. I wonder if they will fetch that price at coin shows and B&M stores?"

Today, 11/17/11, a dealer at the Baltimore Whitman coin show told me he sold several sets in OGP for $895.00 each.

 

I too am curious if right now is the high end bubble to sell at about a grand unopened or is this thing going to take off as fewer and fewer are left unopened from the mint? I only got 1 set, so I am leaving it sealed as it was when it arrived today...

 

On eBay I can search/find a list of pending 25th anniversary sales but I forgot how see a list of completed sales.
Any help with this is appreciated.

Exactly, and it usually asks me to log in before it will show me results.

 

Unless you have a sealed box of coin sets of course. The last date for the early release designation from the slabbers will pass if you wait too long. Then the price of sealed boxes will level out with the unsealed sets.

 

This is completely false.
A sealed box is always going to be eligible for "25th anniversary set" designation on all 5 coins (yes i know you were talking about ER and FS..)
A sealed box has never been cherry picked, this will matter more and more as time goes on. Especially as more graded coins get on the markets. In a year, if you are selling a raw opened set, then any smart buyer will assume that those coins, at least the S and RP, must have visible flaws, otherwise why would the seller not get them graded. ETC.
This same thing happened with the 2006 20th set. For the first month or so, open and sealed sets sold for about the same prices. Then the separation between Sealed sets and open sets became ... large.

First Strike cut off is, and always has been, based on the date the package was shipped from the Mint to you OR the date received by PCGS from you. Therefore if they are kept sealed, these sets will forever be FS eligible.

Yes Steve, I was talking about the FS designation. According to PCGS: First Strike cutoff date: December 7, 2011

 

Again, that is the date that 1) your package has to have been sent to you by the Mint if it's still sealed OR 2) the date received by PCGS. Since, as far as we can tell, these will have all been sent out by 7th December, 2011 then sealed boxes will always be FS eligible.

Yesterday, I saw opened sets selling on eBay consistantly for over $800. Average may have been about $825+. Today, I can't even find one opened set that even brought $800, and the average may be around $775. I wonder if this is just an off day, or if they are starting to fall off a little bit.

Before yesterday, there were less than 500 listed on eBay, and now there are about 725 listed, so maybe it's just because there are so many more listed?

Yesterday, MCM raised their price to $1199. Today, coinlover11111 posted a site where you can buy them for $799 set, and now MCM has removed their price and it says to call them for the price. That's a heck of a difference!

Most companies only sell MS69 or MS70, so it will be pretty easy to figure out exactly where those eagles that don't make that grade will be going. That is really going to hurt the price of opened sets, and raise the price of the higher grades. It's like it was all planned out that way.
