I have one 2011 SF mint bullion ASE (embarrassing, don't ask why) and it looks exactly the same as the 25th anni set bullion to me. Same finish. That's the only 2011 bullion I have, so I don't know if the SF bullion looks the same as W bullion.

Coins in the obverse and reverse photos were actually side-by-side, with four 150w lights looking down and from the sides. The only software enabled change made to the raw photos was cropping the edges.

Can you post a pic? So, maybe the SF's are identifiable. Or, maybe there's different finishes from both mints. Or, maybe it's die state. Or, maybe .....

My coin photo skills don't exist yet, so sorry about the blurry reverse, but I hope these are even a bit helpful. I only cropped them, did not attempt to tweak white balance or such. Natural light.

Based on my coins and the pics I've ween so far, my guess would be it's more about die state than anything.

I'm seeing a difference, but not as pronounced as the previous comparison. Was your pic taken side by side with the same light? Have an obverse comparison?

Anyone have a comparison of the bullion and an unc, both from the set?

Yes, side by side and same light. I need to learn more about this pic taking business. I need to find my glasses and really take another good look.

I have opened 3 sets (sold two of them) and one of the bullion coins I sent off looked very hazy. It had "light rings" like the coin in the OP. Maybe it's the same coin? :) I have n experience with burnished coins, but I just thought some moisture had creeped in the capsule and was already affecting the coin. The capsule on that coin was tad loose.

Anyway to send your pics to the TPG'ers and ask for an opinion? I doubt they’d go solely off the pics, but they probably have some experience with the finishes and may have formed an opinion.

Yes, I spoke to someone from NGC a little while ago -referencing these same photos. She said they'd look into and get back to me in a day or two, on the question…is this a variety or not.

I saw this thread at work and WAS NOT going to open another 25th..... thread, but I saw it was statequaterguy. I got two sets yday and couldn't tell which one was the bullion coin. I then showed it to my wife and asked her which 1 of the 3 were diiferent she also chose wrong. So check your set and try and guess which is the bullion, so far 2 out of 2 saw no diffeence.

THought the same thing. Glad I opened it.....it would be great to confirm this variety.

In looking at Ebay auctions for these cannibalized sets (three cheaper coins plus the case for sale), they are bidding at between $160.00 and $180.00 which is substantially more than bullion value for the three coins. It's almost as if the cat is out of the bag, so to speak, and the market is already pricing the bullion coin as though it is unique. Or could it be that buyers really find that the nice case has significant added value ($60.00 +)? For just the three coins, sans case, I would expect them to be selling for about $105.00 to $110.00 (melt value). Am I missing something? Please don't get me wrong, I would love for these bullion coins to be certified/recognized as a variety. I just think it's too late to capitalize on this knowledge.

I have not got my set yet, according to the mints email it should be shipped 11/28. But I will look at it carefully

I think $60 might be high, but I wouldn't be surprised if these boxes go for $40-50 on their own. The proof should also bring the price up a bit over melt, and even the burnished wasn't available for under $50 from the mint.

That sure looks different in the picture.

Yeah, I agree. The boxes are so nice they're worth at least $50. I think there's magnets and metal in the bottom of the frame that holds them up at that angle without them falling down. That is probably why they weigh so much.

The proof is still more than a "regular bullion coin". I think they get struck 3 times to get as good of a strike as possible. Plus they require additional handling procedures and polishing with special polished planchets. They're normally worth $60, just about any year. If the other two coins are only going for melt, that puts you in the 170-180 range that they're going for. The going prices for these broken up, 3 coins sets make sense to me.

How you doin? Yeah, I thought, what am I doing starting another 25th. Hard to believe the Mint didn’t capitalize on this by advertising a no mint mark burnished, so may be nothing. But, you never know, it wouldn’t be the first time they slipped a surprise in or didn’t know what the left hand was doing.

Put the other one in a capsule.

You think the clear plastic capsule is causing that much of a difference in the photo?
