The Silver Eagle continues to attract new collectors. In six months when all of the original 100K sets are put in people's: safes, hole in the ground or on display in their livingroom, there will be folks who will have to have the RP & S,either raw or graded, and willing to pay $500 -$900 each to complete their sets.

The bullion, Unc. ;W, and the W proof are nice, but there are so many available that no one will pay much for them or the beautiful box. Too bad because the complete set is very attractive.

I would like to Thank the Mint for putting together this beautiful set. People will talk about the 25th Anniversary of the Silver Eagle for many years.

I would be willing to bet some of those sales are to dealers, especially when you look at various feedbacks. If a dealer thinks they are going to get these sets for $500 now they are probably on something or smoking something. Not many people are going to forgo $200+ in possible profit just to sell to a dealer.

Its just like these other places that were offering people anywhere from $360-425 for opened sets after the first couple says... they must be high to think they'd get a lot of stock offering up only that much. I guarantee they are paying more through back channels somewhere...very likely ebay.

Fact is other online coin retailers and coin dealers are going to be able to sell these in their shops and make a profit in the long run, even if they buy sets at $650+. These probably have long term value of $750-900 range when you use the factors I stated earlier and compare to the prices of 2006 set.

A high volume of sales history that shows only coins as being sold. I think its pretty simple. A collector selling their spares wouldn't have as high a volume of coins being sold. Pretty simple really. Many coin dealers in my area have ebay accounts. Thats all I'm going to say on the subject.

Of course dealers are selling these. Please prove to me that dealers are buying at $850, as you said. You can't, because they're not.

He's talking about check the buyer's feedback, not the seller's.

    I know.

Check the buyers ID's= all different= means individual collectors.

You don't understand what I'm saying at all. Unless they got in on the original mint price then the dealers have to buy these through other channels. You said to look at the BST on another forum. I would venture to guess there aren't many people selling at $500 when they know they can easily get $700+ elsewhere, doesn't make a lot of sense to leave $200+ on the table. I'll go check that BST forum though. If I see they're going for that props to you. Otherwise dealers are gonna have to pay market price just like everyone else if they didn't get the issue price from the mint.

And no where did I say dealers were paying $850 for sets...the going price on the auction site seems to be around $700...

Oh you were perfectly clear, here's what you said:
"I agree Danr. It's really simple supply and demand. If the main buyers right now for five sets, sealed or open, are dealers then the true collectors aren't really getting in."

You can't prove the main buyers are dealers. You want to hope that is the case, but of course it isn't. If dealers were buying en masse you would see a bunch of the same Buyer ID's. You're not. Why? Because collectors are buying them. Look at all the Buyer's coded ID's, they are all different.

Dunno if it's already been posted, but there's a PF70 MS70 set on ebay that's already at $2650 with a day to go.

Does the 'Greysheet' cover these sets yet?

This would assume the dealers operate with 1 ID. Surly, the larger dealers have their employees doing the grunt work with multiple IDs. (just like they did when the mint was selling)

Good question. As of my Oct 28 issue (more are at the PO I'm sure), no, they just go through 2010. They do have a headline on pg. 1 "25th Anniv Sets Heat Up" but nothing more about it.

I'll give it my guess for its' value in 5 to 10 years. Mint issued $500, PR/MS graded 70, $1200 to $1500. IMHO. There is no allowance for inflation or a change in base metal price. These are at todays market conditions.

my guess for the same time frame- mint issued- $1.5K to $2K ---graded- 70 ??

at the end of the day...$3100 for my 4 sets that I sold (minus ebay and paypal fees which are about $95 a pop and $1500 for the 5 sets I bought) = 1 free set and around $1200 profit. I'll take it :) There was at least one investor that bought one of mine, as indicated by his paypal address. He also bid on a second set.
