You made the point well! I've discussed this several times with several different collectors, and this scenario always ends up being the best idea, because the mint can control it. They could even number them if they really wanted!

I sent mine, little risk but its worth it. Holidays coming around will help sell them. I know getting 70s is tough but you never know. Even 69s in the S mint mark and Reverse proof will bring 325-375 each...

Was watching the coin vault for ***** and giggles and they said they received five boxes of five sets today and sent them right out to NGC. They said they had other employees that had also ordered five sets and some had their orders cancelled. They will not be selling any of the sets until they get them back. They may sell some raw but will wait until their other employees have their sets delivered. Robert speculated the graded 70 sets will likely top $4-5k and said as much because thats what one went for on an auction website. So as many speculated these shopping networks had their employees gobbling up as many as they could. He also said the dealers they work with that had agreed to sell them sets are going back on their word and thats fine, they'll have something those dealers want and they can just pay the coinvault prices for those items. Sounded a little upset when he went there. Interesting...
Mine shipped out today but theres zero chance I'm going to be here tomorrow at noon to receive them...............so what do I do? Will UPS try delivery again on Saturday?
Assuming you have a car and time to travel later in the day/evening, call UPS customer service and find out where your regional distribution center is located (the place your courier takes your undeliverable package back to at the end of his/her run). Take the door tag they leave for you and go pick up your coins. Other posters who work for UPS or courier services can advise you better, but your center probably isn't that far away, especially if you live in a more populated area (city/suburbs). I have driven the twenty minutes many times to pick up packages from mine. Just an idea.
If it's coming Next Day Air, and you live in a metro area, they should attempt delivery sometime before 10:30. Any chance you could be there by 10:30 am? Then leave after you receive it? Isn't that right Ken?
PCGS News Just came across in my email: IMPORTANT UPDATE: November 10, 2011. We have received the first submissions of the 25th Anniversary Coins. The mint sealed packaging includes a Certificate of Authenticity. That certificate lists all 5 coins. In that list the bullion coin with no mint mark is reported to be minted in either San Francisco or West Point. This information conflicts with earlier reports so PCGS contacted the mint directly. We were told by a mint official that while most of the no mint coins were minted in San Francisco there is no guarantee that all of the no mint coins were minted there. Consequently PCGS cannot label the no mint coins as (S) as originally planned. Those coins are still eligible for 25th Anniversary Labels and for First Strike according to the already published guidelines. We apologize for all the confusion. PCGS will recognize all five coins as 25th Anniversary coins if they are submitted in their original, unopened mint packaging. Since the "S" mint and Reverse Proof have only been made for the 25th Anniversary set, they can be sent in from an opened mint package and still receive the 25th Anniversary designation; however, the other coins in the set cannot. In order to have all five coins designated as 25th Anniversary they must be submitted in their unopened mint packaging. All five of the coins are eligible for recognition as First Strike. Standard First Strike rules apply; see our submission form to select this option. To submit your Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set, please follow these guidelines: Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Sets may be submitted under the Modern service level or higher To receive the 25th Anniversary Set designation, sets must be submitted in their unopened (sealed) mint packaging All five (5) coins are eligible for First Strike designation for an additional $18 per coin Coins submitted for First Strike will receive the First Strike label First Strike cutoff date: December 7, 2011 Only the "S" mint and reverse proof may be submitted from an opened mint package and still receive the 25th Anniversary Set and First Strike designation All 25th Anniversary coins, including First Strike, will be assigned a unique PCGS number (see below) Additional First Strike submission guidelines may be found at www.pcgs.com/services/firststrike.html.
