anyone selling the 2011 ASE set for less than a grand is INSANE

If i were US mint i would milk this for all the money its worth do couple more releases', heck they can call it 2nd,3rd,4th release and issue couple million more.

Imagine the outrage from the coin flippers.

 

They don't have time. This process is so slow they can barely get these out over a month. 2012 is 51 days away with numerous holidays in there.

Just watched a single, opened set jump from $785 to $850 at the last second.

 

What a fool. SEALED, unsearched set went for $860, 10 minutes ago.

 

They already do. Thats why they had the 20 year set and then the 25 year set. How much you want to bet they'll do a 30 year set, followed by a 35, 40 and so on? And people will continue to pay stupid aftermarket prices for non rare coins. If you like the series, the Mint's price actually was pretty reasonable, I thought. But $1000 aftermarket price...thats a lot of cheeseburgers I'd rather spend elsewhere. But it's not my money.

If you look at the "settled" prices for the 1995W and the 2006 set, the 2011 set should settle in the 1k to 2k range. If anything, it looks like the 2011 set is giving the 2006 set a boost. If you want one, better get it now while the 1000's available are keeping the price down.

 

That would kill their market - they've committed to 100k.

 

Looks like it doesn't matter if they're sealed or not. Not everybody is looking to grade them. Another opened set just got bid up to $860 at the last second.

If I were buying off ebay, I would want a sealed set to be sure that it wasn't cherrypicked.

 

I don't think everyone cares so much about cherry picked or what not, for some the more important thing is having one set for their collection.

 

Its even assuming all sellers know how to cherry pick these. I am not very sure of my ability to tell a 69 from a 70 unless I want to break out my stereo microscope. Its such a tiny difference, I have never cared to know before.

I think I made up my mind to open my case and sell a few sets when I get it. No good news on that front I am afraid, order placed at 2:06 and still reserved on the mint's website.

Maybe this needs its own thread... but is it the general consensus around here that they WILL be making ASE coins in 5? 10? 15? 20-years from now? Some of you think they will continue making this exact same coin for 45-years?

I read somewhere that when congress voted to produce the ASE there was something about how it would be produced for a minimum 25 years and then they would reevaluate..

Most coins aren't produced without a redesign for much longer than a 25 year span historically, however things are different this time since we are talking about "bullion." Regarding Bullion though, there is only one other silver bullion coin that has been in production longer than the ASE that i know of, and that is the Chinese Silver Panda. And those change the panda design every year...

I would imagine they have to stop eventually some the set can be complete, and introduce a new coin that would sell out immediately. Just like how the ASE was a sell out in 1986.

I checked with my coin dealer and he has some, but wouldn't sell to me for less than $700. Hindsight I guess. Good thing I got the Lincoln Chronicle set when they came out. At least I have that to console me.

I think I'd rather spend the $700 on a nice $500 bill or large-size paper note.

 

You're crazy - lol. I'd like to see them at least get rid of that corporate eagle by changing it to the one used on the WLH.

 

Grab it at $700, a dealer in my area wants $1,500, which is where they will probably settle. And, you have 5oz of silver and numismatic value, not paper, which is all numismatic value.

Tops will be around 1500 IMO. I think for now 800-1000 is more then reasonable, BUT 1200 is what I expect for each set.

I am very eager to see my set when it arrives.

It's nice to see the US Mint put out a good product. I was among those disappointed by the cancellation of the proof ASE. Always wanted the reverse finish proof; here's my chance.
