With 2011 pretty much in the can from a coin release standpoint (other than an unspecified number of uncirculated ATB pucks), what do we know of that is looming on the horizon for next year that will generate some buzz? Not necessarily just the U. S., but anywhere in the world? This was a pretty good year with the Perth Mint Dragon, the Silver Eagle Anniversary Set, a couple of nice pucks, the Canadian Grizzly and the Fiji Taku.
In 2012, there will be two different Grover Cleveland presidential dollars and two different Frances Folsom Cleveland first spouse gold coins. Now that's something to get excited about.... . TC
I'm patiently waiting for some nice allegorical renderings reminiscent of the 19th century or perhaps some really nice art deco designs which became popular in the 1920's. At least they would give us something to ponder beyond the, "Do you think it will grade 70 mentality?" Chris
Recently, I’ve been buying the Australian Kangaroo at Sunset one ounce proofs – very limited production (4,000 to 5,000 each year) and a beautiful coin. I think the 2011 version can still be purchased through the Canadian Mint.
I'm still patiently waiting for the 2011 Canadian 10Kg $100,000 gold coin to be released. I can't wait to invite friends out to a fancy dinner and at the end say... "Oh! Can anyone break $100,000? ...No? I guess I'll have to catch you next time!"
Something really, really cool would be for the mint to make coins exactly as they were a hundred years ago, like make more buffalo nickels but with a 2011 date and modern proof issues, that, in my opinion would be insanely awesome, bus. strikes too, maybe some common like ms grades, but also 70's
Looking forward to the next Canadian Wildlife series releases... A new US reverse proof design, or lincoln chronicles-esqe kinda set would be sweet!
I really don't want to hear of an end to the Presidential Dollars program. Another silver proof set with 4 presidents will make me happy next year.
My coins that will get me excited will be some Sassanid drachms, maybe a few Roman Republicans, and I am sure some Hepthalite and Sogdian pieces. That's the beauty of being an ancient collector, my new special coins have been around a minimum of 1500 years, its just a matter of me getting my grubby little paws on them. I mean that literally, I actually get to handle my coins without fear of turning a 70 into a 69, (oh my!) Can't wait! Chris
I've read that Benjamin Franklin was quite the ladies man during his years in Paris. Perhaps the Mint should design a series of commem dollars depicting his "escorts" in their finest French clothing of the period. Let's see? If they released five per year, maybe it would only take 20 years to complete the set. Chris
'I'm patiently waiting for a first issue US paladium coin.' Me, too. The legislation states that a feasibility study must first be conducted before any of these coins can be minted. I've tried web searching, but I haven't found any updated news on the status of this required study and the minting of this coin. Anyone know?
I've been following the news and am hopeful this coin is 'feasible' too! Whenever I see news about the palladium eagles I post links to this thread. If you find any updates, feel free to share them in the thread: American Eagle Palladium Bullion Coin Act Introduced in House
Years ago my brother and I went to lunch with a Contractor to discuss his project. He pulled out a $1,000 bill and said "I would get this, but I doubt they can break my bill". My brother asked to see it. When he got it in his hand, he pulled his wallet and traded it with 10- $100 bills and told him "I bet they won't have a problem breaking a 100". My brother kept that big bill, too. lol I agree that there is always someone who might just surprise you. gary
