2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set

Discussion in 'Bullion Investing' started by SILVER E C-C, Aug 21, 2011.

  1. Of the coins in the 25th anniversary set, there is a proof coin, a reverse proof coin, and a W mint mark burnished coin; this is clear to me. It is the other two coins that I need clarification on. For the S mint mark coin, is it burnished or not? For the generic bullion coin (with no mint mark), is it minted at West Point or SF. I have read conflicting reports for the last two coins, so will someone please enlighten me. Thanks, TC

Dang Midas. Two hours and eleven minutes to complete the transaction? Guess I'm just danged lucky. I logged on at 11:45 and kept bouncing back and forth between the home page and the proposed offering. When high noon ensued I was still bouncing but nothing would load. At about 12:10 I was able to park what I thought were five sets in my shopping cart, only to find out that I had 15......a definite no, no. It took a few more minutes to correct the mistake and I was out of Dodge by 12:19.

My understanding is that it will be burnished.

    .

Dang TC. I thought you was the expert on these things.......:) I can't tell an "S" from an "S"-less, from a "W"......

In a most naughty way you have been enlightened. Now take that enlightenment with a grain of salt. :) Love ya like a Brother TC......

Hi Green, Good to hear you were out of there fairly quickly.
I was logged on to the order page, using the Naval atomic clock, I was waiting for exactly noon before putting the sets into the shopping. After about twenty minutes the order page disappeared and I thought the order was lost.. Kept trying to get back in. About twenty or so minutes later I was able to get back to the order page and saw five sets in my order basket. Then spent the remaining time trying to checkout. finally realized, I think, my previous actions were stored in the server buffer waiting for the server to respond. Then another excruciating wait to click through the check out procedure. Completed at 2:11pm.
Thinking about it some it was worse then the 2009 AGE UHR order fiasco. .

I realized I mispoke in an earlier message when I wrote >90,000 users were logged into the agency network system simultaneously. The agency employed around 90,000 + contractors. it was open 24/7 so I assume around 40,000 or 50,000 were logged on during the day shift.

  6. Ken: LOL...You may have just purchased 5 "S"-less ASEs in your 25th Anniversary Sets. :D :smile TC

I had that same thought! They know that nobody gets to look at these so what are the chances that they just dump them all into a big pile, grade them all, then send them back out? I have heard that they all but guarantee a percentage of 70's to their top submitters, so what if they are running low and I have 2 in my group? I guess I am just a pessimist sometimes.

I have thought about waiting to see how many are coming out 70's and what the prices look like, but I don't know if I can!

I checked the Mint website but no longer see the product description listed. In the product description I believe there is a "SF" ASE in the set.

    Dear United States Mint Customer:

We are fully aware of the difficulties many customers encountered last week with the release of the American Eagle 25[SUP]th[/SUP] Anniversary Set. We would like you to know that we have undertaken an aggressive review of how we brought the product to market so we can better serve all of our customers in the future. Dick Peterson, the Deputy Director of the United States Mint, has also directed that the bureau review all future product offerings to ensure that we apply to them the lessons we learned from the marketing of the American Eagle 25[SUP]th[/SUP] Anniversary Set.

One of the principal sources of frustration was our web and phone order-taking system. As many of you know, we are in the process of updating our order management system. Our current system is very outdated and we recognize that it does not serve our customers well. Accordingly, we recently selected a contractor that will develop and implement our new system—one that will be modern and comparable to other top-rated retail Web sites. Unfortunately, this transition will take some time; we are anticipating that the new system will be in place by fall 2012.

Our aim is to work earnestly to ensure that the inconvenience and frustration that our regular customers may have encountered last week is mitigated in 2012 as we re-examine our product launch strategies and systems. We value our relationship with you and are committed to serving you professionally and responsively. You deserve no less!

I think that's the same letter they sent after the Lincoln chronicles sale

  16. x115: Thanks for the info. That is the first I had ever heard about the bullion ASE in the 25th anniversary set being struck in Denver. That would be a first for the ASE program. TC

I read the Bullion was from SF, which would make sense if that were they are packaging the sets.

What this means is that a lot of the orders for 5 won't get filled. I have several orders in with family, I personally ordered 2 and they are 35,000 numbers behind a family member who ordered 5 sets. Mine are in process, his are still on hold!

some one posted this in another thread, does it make sense ? i don't think it does but what do i know
