Looks to me like alot more auctions have prices starting above the $600 mark,(sold and unsold). I am thinking that the sellers are starting to try and set a market price as opposed to letting the bidding set the price. As the flippers sell off their sets to others on ebay who plan to resell, or places like Apmex, the new listings with a higher starting price will start to make up the majority. It really doesn't matter what the issue price was as long as the sellers refuse to sell for less than a certain amount. If people who haven't already bought one of these want to find one in the near future, they will be forced to go to the online retailers, HSN, or pay what the going rate is on the bay.(which I would bet will be less than the coin vault) JMO.
Call in ,tell them you have 5 sets and see what they are offering....I'm curious . I say "very happy to them" is 400 per set
Sold for $1,029.00? Those of you who are more eBay savvy than myself, in your opinion is this sale for real? Because it looks legit to me. 29 bids.. the bidders got carried away, and its a well written ad that stresses "US MINT SEALED" many of these sales don't mention a sealed box... I've been a long time lurker, a longer time ASE collector, and now I'm first time posting, this new 25th anniversary set has me excited!
:welcome: SteveM1320, I think a lot of these auctions are bid up by so called "shill Bidders" to increase the prices. I would almost bet the final bidder will default on making payment for the high bid that was made on many of these auctions until sellers have the product in hand! Steve did you get lucky enough to get your order in with the Mint ?
Hello McBlzr, and thank you. That's interesting about these "shill Bidders." Yes i did get lucky with the mint and got my order through on Thursday. I was planning on buying my sets on Friday, but i checked things out on Thursday at lunchtime, and after seeing the mayhem that was going on I realized I'd better join in if i wanted to beat a sell out. My internet wouldn't load past the "your cart" page. So i called the mint approx. 100 times between 1 and 2:30 and luckily got through to make my order! exciting stuff.
They were paying that the day they went on sale, before they were even sold out. That's just an offer. Others have said they will pay more if negotiated. It's the equivalent of selling one on ebay for $480 after fees. No way.
Just checked eBay and for the first time since the order date the number of ads listed is below 400 (380). We'll see if this trend continues.
No, one just sold for $625 and a 69 Reverse Proof sold for about $450. I'd expect prices to start creeping up with fewer listed, but too soon since this just started this morning and still too many listed at 320.
9 out of 10 that get submitted for grading will be graded a PF-69. There will be thousands of them. Somebody was willing to pay $450 for the reverse proof, broken out of the set by itself and graded PF-69. Which is about where I expected the value of them to be. I think the reverse proof will prove to be worth $500 or more by itself. A 70 might be worth $1200 or more.
Yep, I know others are "discounting" the S Burnished, but they have the same mintage as the Reverse Proof and I like them as much.
I've never traded futures. Nor do I want to do so now. I wish the mint would get some of these sets out so we could see what the "in hand" folks will be getting. Vess and Mikes' observation about Ampex shows that the fat cats ain't panicking.......
Dropping like flies, we're down to 279 ads. Wonder if some of these sellers are getting cancel notices or.......
eBay is canceling the auctions. More so to do with no proof of ordering. If people would just post up a confirmation number or picture of their email, it would have stayed up. I've been doing pre-sales before but never had a problem with eBay canceling my auctions.
