Now... are they being serious? I mean yes, the hype was and still is around but really. Maybe it's not just me, but the Silver Glided edition (50K limit) is ehhh. The Coloured Proof (10K limit) looks nice but then again, almost $100 per oz. I don't know if they are collectible or crap. Whats your thought about these offerings from the Perth Mint.

I believe it's printed on. The price WAS around 100 but its down to around 60 now. You should see how much the "GEM" version is going for... 2k!

There is a huge amount of hype around these coins (gold & silver versions). I predict that like the hysteria that went with the ATB coins, it's probably best to wait these out unless you absolutely have to have one.

These are too rich for me. I'd rather have 3 ASE's or Maples than 1 of these, even though I'd rather have 1 of these than 1 of just about anything else. Numismatics are nice, but they don't fit my game plan which is simply to stack as many ounces as possible. If it were in the $60 range I'd consider it, but no way $100. I can't really blame them with the current price of silver for wanting to make a little extra profit in order to send their silver out of the country. I think the resale value with these will hold quite well, as all of this series has done so.

The Dragon mania is insane. The proof sets and 1oz proofs are beyond ridiculous money, but the keep selling and people keep buying. The 1oz bullion version is $100 no matter where you try to buy it, and people keep lining up to buy it. When the 4 coin typeset went on sale yesterday you couldn't get on Perth Mint's website. It's nuts, take a look at Apmex and what they're selling the proofs for.

Lastly, the Perth Mint's colored versions are done very well. They're not the rediculous and hideous crayola jobs that companies do to the ASEs.

I would buy one for $100 if it was easy and I didn't have other coins on my mind. Those coins have a huge following and will continue to be popular for a long time. Nice looking coins, check out the red one and the dragon has a ruby in it's eye. Hecxk I* wouldn't pay that much but I'd pay $100 for the gilded one. :thumb:

    Hi Everyone,

I dont' meant to hijack the thread but I wanted to ask has the Unc 1oz coin been released? I've seen several different websites and some don't have it and others kind of make reference to it. So I wasn't sure. If it has been released does anyone know of any reputable coin dealers that are selling it?

    Thanks!!!

If you mean the plain silver 1-ounce BU, you can get it at Modern Coin Mart, Gainesville Coins and Provident Metals. The going price is about $100.00 and the shipping varies from place to place.

$100 for a one ounce silver coin? Why is it so much? That's like $65 over spot. I understand it's a popular coin but is it that popular or is it a extremely low mintage?

Perth Mint limits the mintage of the 1oz bullion issue to 300k per year. The dragon is the most popular design of the series 1 issue and the dealers are taking full advantage of that. Right now the series 1 is selling in the $125 range or higher if you can find them. They are going to make a glut of these in the unlimited mintage issues for the next year, so I think a cautious approach would be prudent.

Taking a quick look at the prices on release the 1/2 oz was $30, the 2oz $100, 5oz $180, 10oz was about $350 if I recall correctly. Right now the 1/2 $45, 2 - $135, 5 - $300 and 10 is about $500, and I passed on the kilo last week at $1060. I'm not sure what to say as they have another 10 months to make these sizes in unlimited quantities. I did buy the 1/2, and 2oz on issue and waited 2 months for delivery from my no longer good friends in OKC, ordered Aug 23 and took delivery on Oct 20th at the presell prices, then picked up a couple 10oz recently for $380.

Just so you know the gilded issue at Perth's website is almost sold out and since the release of the gilded dragon the ox, rabbit and tiger have sold out and the mouse is close, just over 100 left. Lastly, you can order direct from the Perth Mint with free international shipping on orders over $75 until the end of the year. They just changed that, as it was orders over $300 for free shipping. Be careful as most credit cards do have foreign transaction fees and they can add up to a couple percent.

I ended up buying the 1 oz coin from Modern Coin Mart for $96. I do love the design and did want to keep the series up to date.

What I though was interesting was that the coin I bought was graded and an ungraded coin they were selling was more expensive. Its usually the reverse isn't?
