Most never use eBay, they sign up for one thing because they really want it. I've sold coins on eBay and had a handful of buyers that have zero feedback and just sign up a day before the end of the auction.

Not to change the subject too much, but what would you be willing to pay if the mint comes to you and say your order didn't go through (or you just weren't able to get in the first place). I think if my 3 sets don't go through I'd pay up to $700.

 

Yep. A lot of the bids are the same IDs, or high percentage of bids by that bidder for that particular seller, or there are a lot of bids at the last moment, etc. All the signs are there.

 

WOW, if these sets start realizing $1200 im going to sell.

 

I was thinking it would be people selling sets, but that they aren't bidding on their own auctions. If they can bid up lots of auctions to $1500, then maybe theirs will sell for $800-$1000. It would also reduce the competition. Just a thought since I saw lots of new users bidding up to $1500 when they can get a buy-it-now for $800.

 

Apmex has not priced this set yet. Has any other retailer priced it?

 

Coin World’s November 14 issue, page 53, has a full page Chattanooga ad: 5 coin set in NGC MS/PR70 for $3,975 and NGC MS/PR69 sets for $899

 

At those retail prices, I MUST send mine in for grading!

 

Also, ebay investigates cancelled auctions for shill bidding. If the IP matches, they will pull all your remaining auctions immediately and suspend your account.

Posted this in the other 25th anniversary thread. I think it's more likely that this is what's happening along with collectors creating accounts to buy the set that they really want. Dealers weren't allocated any of these sets, so ebay is pretty much their only option other than getting gouged big time later.

There is going to be such a flurry of submissions, the sets left in the OGP might very well fare better than the MS/PR 69 sets. That being said, if I do send my measly 4 sets in for grading (2 orders of 2 each), the cost of grading, insuring/shipping...if you score with a set of MS/PR 70's, it is WELL worth submitting. BUT, it's only going to be the set of MS/PR 70's that will do very well graded....I just see the OGP beating the price of MS/PR 69's. The fact so many will be sent in sealed from the mint, and the many that will be opened up for the 'cherrypickers' hoping their eyes are good enough and send in only sets they think will get 70's....I just have to believe there will be very few sets left intact, and those will sell for good $$. We all know there are ALOT of collectors that prefer their coins raw, and when it comes to special mint products, there are alot that like their products in the OGP, so I think the raw sets will have extended legs and retain there current levels, then run up once these are 'in-hand' (for instance, the 2009 Lincoln rolll sets, in mint packaging only, not rolls from the bank....those LP-1 sets, limited to just under 100,000...those were into the $100 plus range for a long time, and still fetch good $$...not bad for $8.99 ea originally), . You have to remember, those that are 'buying' these 'pre-sales' know they are rolling the dice, and realize that there's a chance they'll need the aid of Paypal to get their $$ back.....anyone buying these presales that don't use a CC with Paypal are nuts.....ANYONE sending in a money order is certifiable). It's well known that more than a small % of these pre-sales don't pan out.

One pre-sale that I watched, it sold for $620 (maybe $640, but it was less than $650...it got some last minute action, rising over $100 in that last minute or so). Funny thing was, the seller originally had the item listed as a BIN for $495 (perhaps 1 1/2 days prior, probably listed right after he got his email confirmation from the mint), and naturally, thatwas snapped up for the $495. The seller was paid that same day.....however, apparently later that day, seller refunded the buyers $, realizing they were going to go for more $ (probably saw the listings after his was sold, realized he could make close to an extra $150), and hosed the first buyer. Seller got banged with a neg, naturally (and rightfully deserved....ebay should toss sellers that practice that).

Once sellers have them in-hand, and the buyers know they are bidding/buying something that can be shipped immediately, I really believe the $600 sets now (assuming they are delivered) are still going to give the buyer room to make a decent profit re-flipping them. But again, with only 100,000 sets, there are going to be so many sent off the PCGS, NGC, ANACS andd ICG (I can't see using any TPG but PCGS or NGC for these), the OGP could/will be a better 'score' than a 69 graded set with no OGP. Just my 2 cents.

How on earth can these grade under 69? Unbelievable that they could grade as low as 63, 64, 65, or 66.

With all the hoopla about members having trouble obtaining these sets, I never considered how many the TV hucksters are going to try to get. Those guys will be the ONLY selers getting an obscene premium for the 69's. As for what THOSE guys will sell these sets for, I wouldn't be surprised to see a $4,000 minimum price on these 70 sets....and the sad thing is, those will mostly be in ANACS or ICG slabs (not knocking either TPG, I just believe they toss out the 70 grade just a little too easily. And, once they are in those co's holders, they won't be getting crosed over, due to the 2 'big guys' requiring them to be sent in sealed to qualify for the special designations (except for the 'S' mintmark, and the Reverse Proof).

 

Pretty good take on the situation, when I started out my plan was the buy 3, sell 2 and have one paid for idea. The more I look at it I will open one (mine) and leave the other's unopened for 1-5-10 years who knows, but really no reason for me to open the other ones out of the original packaging.

 

No question...can see white border next to the label. I'm guessing NGC released an image of the label, and this seller went 'shopping' with an already graded 2011. Only saying 'I'm guessing, as I don't look for that stuff while on their sites....and I don't think I've seen an image of it in CW (let my NN sub lapse....though both are still 50% ads...and contain just about the same articles, and the 'Letters from Readers' seem to be the same). I think CW gives you more bang for your buck. JMHO

 

I ordered 5 sets, and they are going to PCGS. I'm hoping to make at least one set of 70's. I'll keep the others slabbed, and if the price in OGP goes much higher than slabbed, I'll just break them out and put them back into OGP for sale.
