My NEPHEW ordered later, about 6:00 P:M, and received order confirmation.

+++ Chrome has nothing to do with it. "Backchannels", would be more prevalent. Although, U.S. Mint disputes this fact.

+++ If you have an order number, you will receive your order, unless you purchased under the "waiting list". Under this list, you probably will not receive any merchandise. No one will be returning any, even with imperfections.

Geez, 6 post in less then 10 mins... I think you could have just clicked the edit button and and update. lol

Anyways, the coins are worth as much as people are willing to buy and in this market, there are plenty of sellers right now. You just don't see it, but there are and those hoping to get 2K a set will be the ones biting the dust at the end.

+++ I somewhat disagree, in this respect. There are a minimum (100,00) silver eagle collectors, excluding the secondary market. If you calculate that the average collector picked up two seats each, more like three each, this would amount to about 40,000 people being able to purchase. Many have been 'shut out'. I'll leave the rest with you to figure out. Anyways, I am somewhat still confused on how to post, find the right forums, or in reality how to use this site properly. Forgive me of my short fallings here.

To reply to other posts, you should find the button under that quote that says "Reply With Quote" and then respond. You can do all your posts at once like this, too. To post in the right forum, just choose the topic that fits your post the best.

Either in this thread or the other ASE 25th Anniv. thread I cited, or at least alluded to, an article I read a few years back that estimated that there are approx. 2.5 million serious ASE collectors. Now I don't remember if this was just proofs, Uncircs, or what and I can't seem to relocate that article but the point is that with a release as small as 100,000 for the 2011 P and S, there are easily 25 people for every one coin that exists. That is certain to drive up the price of these sets especially as Christmas nears. I predict that the price of the aftermarket sets will start dropping or level out around February. What price they eventually realize is anybody's guess.

As you point out, there are people like myself that bought multiple sets so we are talking roughly maybe half of the 100,000 or more going to the same people. That has got to drive the prices into the stratosphere. I'm keeping three of my sets and selling the remaining two when the price gets high enough. The only thing I am interested in is recovering my original investment of 1,500 so if the price per set ever reaches 750, I am selling. I hate paying for my own coins.

Very true, that's another thing as well. Some buyers actually want to keep them or give them as gifts, so no ALL or even a majority of them are going to the dealers, da bay, and so on. If prices can go around 1K or more, I plan on selling 2-4 or maybe a few more. I was able to get 5 for me and my GF was in for 5. Although its an expensive investment for her, I told her it was well worth it. And boy does it look like it.

    My $.02

The value in the sets is the 2011 Reverse Proof which is probably worth $900 -$1,200 in PF69 condition.

    The 2011 S is probably worth $400 - $600 in PF69 condition.

To a Collector of the Silver Eagle Series, either PF69 or PF70 series, the other three coins and the box are really not important, and don't add any real value to what they will pay to own the RP & S coins.

Therefore, these sets should easily sell for $1,300 - $1,800 which is why the Big Coin dealers are buying all the sets that they can get their hands on at $600 - $800 because that is 50% of what the two collector coins are worth w/o the other three coins.

If you want to see the real value of these sets wait for PCGS & NGC to return a RP & S in PF69/70. That's when the real money will flow.

Not true, wish it were. But if you check the mint's FAQ you'll see that the order number starts a process. The process can actually change where you are in the waiting list. Also, if all the sets are mailed before reaching your order number, you (and/or all of us) just won't get one. This process takes place while the order is in "hold". I've attached the process at the bottom. You'll see that "hold takes place while billing is being checked. When reading the last line, you'll also see that "if all the orders don't complete the fulfillment process, your order will be placed (worked on) the next day. I take it, that that means, if all the orders are filled, there is no next day. Here's the FAQ:

    • If an order has outstanding issues-such as credit card holds, household order limit violations, or address verification conflicts, the next orders in line can be fulfilled before the one with outstanding issues. Once the outstanding issues are resolved, the order is reinserted next in line. Accordingly, such reinserted orders will not be processed for shipment in the same sequence as their order numbers.
    • Each day, the order management system generates several "ship lists" which contain all of the orders in line that have been cleared for shipment. These orders can be broken into categories to gain efficiencies; however, within the categories, orders will be shipped in sequence.
    • Personnel at the fulfillment center package and prepare for shipping all orders on their designated ship list in the most efficient manner. After an order is completely packaged and prepared for shipment, it is then moved to the shipping team for carrier pick-up. If the product is moved to the carrier pick-up area, an e-mail ship confirmation will be sent to the customer with tracking information.
    • If, by the end of the day, all orders on the daily ship lists did not complete the fulfillment process, which is complete with the e-mail ship confirmation, those orders carry over to the next day.

Excellent post, you are most wise and knowledgable. In reality, you very well could be correct on the amount of collectors (millions). However, it is those whom are willing to pay the added cost.

Yes, you are absolutely correct. it happened to me once, not with the U.S. Mint. Fortunately, I still received what I re-ordered. Very good point. I really don't think you would receive the set, if your card had expired. Made sure of that, after my first instance.

Chrome, nor any nother browser have any bearing, as far as making a connection, especially when the relays are jammed, and servers overwhelmed. The U.S. Mint will upgrade shortly.

At what time did you attempt to purchase your sets and at what time were you successful in obtaining them?

I started at 10:45 A:M, by phone and internet. I managed to get 4 in cart, but could not complete transaction, via internet. Got disgusted after dialing for dollars for about 5 to 6 hrs. Got hooked up by phone at 4:55 P:M EST. Ordered two. Called my nephew in Naples Florida, and he managed to get tgwo via his internet phone, abot forty minutes later. I have never experienced anything like this, ever.
