sterm- all orders after they are placed go into a hold status. Nothing unusual about that. It took about four hours for them to sell out. In the next week the Mint will be going through and weeding out the multiple orders from the same addresses, weeding out orders where credit cards can't process etc. Then the status of held should change to something like in processing. Its how it always works with the mint. Those of you that have multiple orders, like say 5 orders for one set each, should keep checking your order status. I have a couple good coin collecting friends who did just that and ALL their orders were cancelled today. A couple people in the call center at the Mint said they would not accept multiple orders from the same address, even if you didn't go over the limit of 5. Yikes. Hope its not true or a lot of folks on here and elsewhere will be losing out.
If understand what been written, I think everyone's order is on hold at this point, and backordered. For some reason they are being very vague. I think the way it works is that the orders all got taken and put on hold. Probably more orders than they have product for. Sometime after the sellout, they put up the waitlist notice. Now they'll check the orders (processing credit cards, checking compliance with ordering limits) and start to package and ship in the order in which they were received. I got the product in my cart early, but could not complete the check out until much later. So I think they will run out before they get to mine.
Thanks for the explanation folks. I feel a lot better now that I understand the process. To be proactive, I called my bank yesterday and had a rep note my account to the effect that a charge of $1504.70 will be charged to my account by the United States Mint in the coming weeks. I have plenty of money in my checking account. I just want to make sure that an overvigilant bank security department doesn't deny/flag my transaction due to suspected fraud (I have never purchased anything so expensive in a single transaction before). Hopefully, it won't be a problem. Wouldn't that be a bummer: having your order canceled because they think its fraud
I've posted links to the Mint's FAQ on these questions in the other topic. http://www.cointalk.com/t194104-9/#post1290614

" With 2009 UHR orders scammers were somehow stealing orders numbers from those who checked order status online resulting in some of these people not getting their orders. I don't remember the details but I remember reading about the scam on CoinTalk.

A lot of orders gonna be canceled. Good news for people on the wait list. Apparently they aren't concerned about people keeping some and submitting the rest for grading. I just haven't been that excited about the grading game with this set. (Fortunately!) The mint packaging will be sufficient this time and with this many coins, I wouldn't want to take my chances anyway. I have no desire to break my sets up to submit anything individually.
my order # was 25, i received an email, my mint account says order status on hold, backordered until 11-11-11. i ordered 3 in one order. should i be ok ???
Go back and read the whole thread, your answer is there somewhere. How many times does it have to be posted?
I think the 2008/reverse 2007 was mentioned as an error coin, so some don't consider it as part of the set or for the low mintage.
I haven't seen it reported here on CT, but some on the PCGS forum are reporting that eBay is canceling some presales, although some seem to be going on. TC
