I should say so. Consecutive numbered PCGS First Strike MS70's !!

I wondered what the 2006 Anniv Reverse Proof PCGS First Strike PR70 was selling for.
EBay shows they have sold between $650 to $1050 each, and consecutive numbered ones would be more.

Here's my plan. I work Thursday 7:00AM to 3:30PM. I am going to come home, get on the computer and try to place my order for 1 set. If I get it, I get it. If not, there are alot of coins out there, I am sure I can find something else I like. :D

I'll wait 24 hours after release before I attempt. I'm banking on all you guys and gals to keep that site jamed and down that long. Then I'll take my chances at my leasure. I just sold one set of mint issued proof eagles in original boxes and kept one slabbed set. (Slabs are 1/3 PR70's 2/3 PR69's) I never bought the 1995W because I feel it's overpriced, to me anyway. So if I can't pick up this Anniversary Set at mint cost then, I can live without it as well. My main interest has always been in pre-1900 US coins and large sized US paper currency. But good luck to all who will try.

Nice to see a more "classical" guy jumping in on something "modern". Good luck to you Sam........:)

[aside] I think the '95 is way freakin' overpriced too.....

Yeah, when you hear something like that you have to wonder, what are these guys thinking? Are they all appointees that didn’t have to prove they have a brain to make decisions?

You guys are assuming this issue will sell out within the first week of offering. While inclined to agree with you I still opt to the Felix Unger school of thought concerning things of this nature.......when you assume you make an.....aw heck, watch the video. :)

Funny clip, I saw that in a class back in college and I think again in ojt. Hope it does last long enough that all get at least one, but then I doubt it will last a week.

Beautiful UHRs in that photo. It was certainly the deal of the current century so far from the US mint as anyone who bought one of these when the mint was selling as done quite well if they still hold it. Early coin flippers lost out big time.

I believe it took all year for them to sell out. ~102,000 units I think.

As Buffett says, "There's nothing wrong with taking a profit." There is always downside risk as well.

In my defense, I based my assumption of an early sellout by the facts. The link on #487 post states the ASE is the most widely bought and sold bullion coin in the world ! Along with the low limited production and unique product, does'nt the mint have the responsibility and the time to change the purchase limit so collectors have the best opportunity to acquire a set.

I would have preferred a one limit per household and I believe many of you also despise how the mint has encouraged flipping. I stand by my condemnation of their inaction.

I would like to add that it does not matter if or when a sell-out occures. The mint's actions in regards to it's policy is the issue.

Silver is going up again. I think it will be a sell out pretty quick. I'll be on at 9:30 PM India time tomorrow. By the way, how many marketeers from the mint are lurking on this site? Can you please identify yourselves? I'd like to know the extent of this hype.

I simply believe the hype is due to the price movement of the 20th anniversary set Phil. Myself, I could care less except that I wish to put away sets of 2011 coins for my newborn son, and am afraid of what price these may settle in at. I simply think maybe I am safer buying it from the mint this one instance.

My calculations are about a 5% jump from the previous high. If the mint can change it's price in one day I hope they also reduce the household limit to 1-2. No offense to the vendors but a limit of 5 is way too high. I understand the mint must consider all customers but in this case the collector is being shut out.

Maybe the mint has a black eye from trying to control the after market on the ATB's and now doesn't want to repeat that situation all over again.

I'm not familiar with that case but I'll bet the mint knows the number of collectors vs vendors they sell to. Unfortunately they have no way of knowing how many first issues the vendors actually acquire using other household addresses. Using this loophole projects a skewed stat showing both customers have been serviced to the satisfaction of the mints allotment, and maybe in favor of the collector.

Everyone knows this is not true, its kinda like making numbers say anything you want them to say.

Looks like there's going to be a strong after-market for this set. Here's an unusual email I received from an online dealer:

"As you may or may not know, the U.S. Mint will offer the new 25th Anniversary 5 Coin Silver Eagle Set for sale on their web site at noon EST tomorrow, October 27th. MintProducts will be making a market in these sets and would like all of our subscribers to know that we will be a very strong buyer when the sets come out.
We expect the entire production of 100,000 sets to sell out very quickly, so we strongly suggest that if you are planning on placing an order for them you do so as close to noon as possible. The sets will be priced at $299.95 and the Mint has instituted a 5 set per household limit.

Once you receive your order, we would like you to consider selling the sets to us - at a considerable profit. Other dealers are already making offers on these sets and we will more than match those offers. These sets will hit the market in November and if you wish to sell them, contact us for our high offer! We will be large buyers of these sets so remember; we will beat any other offers you may see! "

It'll be interesting to see how high the after-market prices go.

That is one strong statement from an online dealer. The mint's reaction if any could be threefold. Raise the price, limit the purchase/household or raise production- maybe all three. And if implememted could adversly affect the value of the set. Again if they do nothing, "Cha-chang" the value will surely explode. IMHO
