Silver will be $6/oz., so somewhere around $100. Just one possible scenario. ;)

There will be no need to. The TPGS will give you the special labels for these two coins simply because they are unavailable through other means, at least this is the way that they handled the 20th anniversary sets

I'll probably buy at least one or two sets from the mint, but only because I like the set. No interest here of making these big windfalls by running games with ebay.

Well I have a dilemma. I want a set but to get one I'll have to sell some coin. I'd love to wait so I don't have to sell but I'm afraid the cost will escalate in the secondary market. I've got some bust halves I'd have to sell.

I started selling off stuff weeks ago in anticipation... Got enough scratch together to get at least 5 sets and maybe more... :)

    And the Winner is.........................
I wanted to review this thread just to see how it evolved from mundane to mass hysterical. Congrats to holz who first got it right on August 26, 2011 post #30

I am aware of this possibility, however from a historical point of view, and from the fact that the economy is bad now and not many people can afford it at the moment, and assuming silver prices remain the same.

If economy improves is it likely that it will worth much more than the ~300$ in 20 - 25 years?

I want one for me, the other to sell later, with all the fees, shipping "which costs a fortune" I want to have a 50% chance of selling the second set for some profit.

Yup. :) More hoping he was right. What was silver trading at back in late August? $40? :)

I presented the ASE release info at my local coin club meet today and there were senior members insisting that these will sell out in 1 to 2 hours tops and one woman was telling me that with the 2006 set, she couldn't even get one online, it kept crashing all the way until it sold out? Will everyone really have a chance to get one that tries at noon?

they didn't sell out in 1-2 hours in 2006... that is just wrong. from what I remember it took a couple of days to sell those sets out. remember there were 250k of the 2006 sets (but a 10 per household limit).

I probably won't even bother trying right at 12pm... I'll wait until mid-late afternoon EDT to try, but I'm 99% sure you'll be able to order them online late Thursday night and likely on Friday as well.

    Good luck.

I don't know if I buy this. Is their entire system, computer and phones, capable of taking 833 orders a minute for 120 consecutive minutes? Not from what I've seen. I don't think they're that efficient. I'd think the system crashes will prevent it if anything. I predict it will take 2 days for them to sell out.

I'm pretty sure the 2006 sold out in several weeks, not days.

I don't think the mint website will be able to sustain 20,000+ orders in two hours. I do believe they'll sell out first day. I believe only 10,000 or so will actually get to end users directly from the mint. Resellers will hoard these coins and probably end up with secondary resellers like big-boxes (APMEX, MCM, etc).

If economy improves it is likely that the dollar strengthens and precious metal values decrease.

but to me if you really love a coin,it is priceless.

but it is nice to have equity also

maybe while every body is on the phone thursday i will go to ebay and buy up all the old gold dollars ,trade dollars & draped bust dollars .
might be some good deals out there !

I'm sure dealers know better to end coins on that day. but you never know.

Good tip x115, I'll be there with you.

I think you're high on the sell out, it's going to be 1-2 days tops.

  20. 100K sets
    1-5 sets per order
    200-500 orders processed per minute
The mint site is sure to crash

    I am estimating a 4pm ET sell out +/- 1 hour.

I also think that people will not make as much money (i.e., not worth time and effort) as they think from flipping these on eBay. I do not see collectors unable to order from Mint paying astronomical prices unless they are MS70/PF70 of the two unique coins in set. I have been saying this all along: If collectors get shut out, there will be a lot of complaints directed at the Mint. They might just lose even more of their collector base. TC

You can thank me too. I am trying for 5 sets so I can sell 3. My hobby is expensive and as a young person with a family and a new baby, I have to add funds where I can or cut expenses. Not all are winners but I often buy from the mint to resell, and I don't feel bad about it at all. Many people would rather buy from the secondary market. Now, I limit my purchases to the max per household, and I don't appreciate the people that are getting 50 or 100 of these, but I won't have any guilt over buying extra to sell later.
