I'm just wondering how many of us who are interested in any of the pieces of this set will be buying the entire set when the Mint offers it and how many of us will wait until the Reverse Proof and the S Uncirculated are offered on ebay, etc. I really don't want the bullion, proof, the W uncirculated and the fancy box. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this opinion. There seem to be advantages and disadvantages either way. Just curious.

I was originally going to say I'm not very interested because there isn't any design variation among the coins (sure there are variations, but all the same drawing). However after I looked it up and saw some of the mintages I am definitely more interested if I can get them without too much premium. It's looking like the set of 5 coins will be between $300 and $400 which is a bit steep for my tastes, but it will probably keep a good resale value so I will be looking out for them at coin shows. I don't plan on buying from the mint after hearing some other peoples' encounters with them. Generally I would rather pick up bullion than special issue coins so I can get more ounces.

I want this set. Just checked the US Mint website, including the upcoming issues, but didn't see it listed. Maybe this is one of those like the hockey pucks that has been promised to third party distributors so they can get their free premium from you?

Patience. They'll announce it. Third party distributors will have no hand in this. This issue is a collectible issue and, as such, precludes the big distributors. That said.......I want all the coins and the fancy box too.......:)

I am gonna go and guess that this set will be around 350, unless of course the speculators manage to drive up the price of silver between now and the end of the month.

  9. I am going to buy online. I will never buy in the secondary market. This one is a "flippers delight" and prices will surely soar. TC

in regards to the OP, it would be a mistake to wait and buy the S and reverse proof on the secondary market. Those are the two premium coins in the set. The rest are available separately. You'd better believe that it will be less expensive to buy the set and sell the pieces that you don't like rather than buy the 2 premium coins after market. It is my experience that you will pay most if not all (or more) of the purchase price to buy these from an individual.

The only reason someone would sell those two coins is to get the common ones for cheap or free. You almost certainly wouldn't sell them at a fair price. Otherwise what sense does it make to buy the set? Why not just buy the other two coins from the Mint?

I'd like you to explain your premise that there is an advantage to buying from someone other than the Mint. What advantage is there in that? Unless the contents (like the Millenium Coin and Currency Set) are unknown or uncertain. This set is advertised as to what it has. No mysteries. So what advantage would there be?

I want one myself.....the only reason I'm glad to see the price of silver down. It should keep the set in the $300-$400 (max) range...so long as silver doesn't spike upwards. Having a bunch of silver, I'm torn, but to keep this set down in price, I'll take the hit (besides it being a good buying opportunity for the white metal).

The set itself should/will be a winner...especially 'out of the gate'. Hopefully, we'll see the set available when they say it will...later this month.

This is correct. You don't want to have to search for these 'after a while'. These sets should go the same way the last RP set went, and this new set will, IMO, should give a good 'push', pricewise, to the '06 Rev Pr (specifically) and the set, as a whole (in general). These shouldn't be sought out individually. You could/will be sorry going about it that way. The RP itself could very well fetch what the set, as a whole, will sell for from the mint.

    Price Projection

When the 20th Anniversary Set went on sale in August of 2006, silver was $12.35 an ounce and the set sold for $100.00. That is a premium of 2.7 times spot. With silver at about $31.00 an ounce today, if we use the same premium, we are looking at a cost of about $419.00 (not including the price of the fancy box.) Sound realistic?

I'm thinking more in the $350-$400 range

  16. I can't wait! I want one. I think if you don't get it from the mint, you will pay more! I hope the price is $350 or so, or else my wife will kill me and I won't get to enjoy it!

The secondary market for these will be horrendous and will easily be out of my price range...

I think this will be one of the best mint offerings of the year and it would be a shame to miss out on getting an unsearched set via the mint, only to pay twice as much for a searched set on the secordary market. I feel this will be one of those instant double your money things for the flippers and high quality MS70/PF70 sets will see upwards of $1000.

You would be better off to purchase the entire set, regardless of which pieces you wish not to have. When these sets are broken up, there would be some question as to whether any coin came from the set, irrespective of the reverse proof, and s uncirculated. There really are not any advantages of purchasing any of these "five" coins seperately, with the exception of increased cost. If you calculate the difference, or per centage, you will be more apt to purchase the entire set. However, at this point in time, there may be a delay, due to the fact of the decrease in cost, as the U.S. Mint has temporarily suspended the two keys. It would be a thought, and only a thought, if the U.S. Mint, stopped production of the proof, and uncirculated versions, and melted the rest down, due to the fluctuation of the metals. In this case, the price of the uncirculated would certainly rise dramatically, and be in high demand. The numbers they have sold at this point, are extremely low. Hope you purchased a few already.

    They may be temporarily delayed.
