Well, it could be an alternative for the folks who can't afford the upcoming set. I've got a Dansco that I've been putting these into since '06 so I want at least one. It would also be nice if the mint offered the San Fran eagle as it would allow the Dansco collector to add another type of eagle to his collection. We'll have to wait and see on that one......
In reality, only 2 coins in the set offer something out of the normal routine; the reverse proof and the San Francisco uncirculated. The other coins are just same song, different verse of the same old, same old. It's too bad a person has to purchase the whole set to get what he/she really wants. I think it may be better, for a person who is primarily interested in the reverse proof, present company included, to wait until they go on sale on ebay, as did the 2006 reverse proof, say for around $200.00 rather than spend twice that for 4 extra coins they don't really want.
Here is my breakdown (guess) based on current prices and some estimates.
Proof-W 68.45 Unc-W 60.45 Unc-S 60.45 Bullion 45 Rev. Proof 90 Box/COA 25 Total 349.35
I'll have to go with close to $350 didn't realize the proof was increased by $8.50 to $68.45 and UNC would go for $60
The online version of the 9/12/2011 CoinWorld has a picture of this set. I'm not sure if it is the actual display box that they will come in, but it is pretty impressive. It says it comes in a custom designed, highly polished, lacquered hardwood presentation case. If it is the one, they are all lined up straight across. Wish I could post here, but I'm sure I would be breaking some copyright rules, so I best not. Chuck

I think the one salient point a lot of folks are overlooking is the probability that the sale of the sets will be an absolute logistical disaster In 2009, when the Lincoln Chronicles set sold, the US Mint's server (or that of their outsourced contractor) crashed at the start of the sale at noon. Trying to place an online order was nary impossible for the first several hours. Those trying to make orders by phone fared little better, being greeted with busy signals and such. Keeping in mind that the 50,000 mintage for the LC sets is only half that of the 25th ASE sets, and the fact that the US Mint is a sloth-like government agency, I think the probability of a chaotic and frustrating reprise for thousands of collectors is very high. I seriously doubt the US Mint has learned a *&^% thing in two years. Since the Mint usually starts product sales on Thursdays at noon, I myself, ironically a federal employee, will be taking a day of annual leave so that I can stay at home with one hand dialing my phone and the other working my laptop. Like thousands of others, I hope that I get through in time. Who knows if and how long that will take though.....
I am probably more of a silver fan in general than an Eagle fan, but I do keep my eye out for them at the right price (as well as looking for any 1996's that may be floating around without the added cost - so far no luck there), but I don't like them enough to pay the premiums for proof coins. I would rather have a Timberwolf or some lunar coins if I'm going to be paying that much. I do have one proof ASE that I received as a gift, and it is a very nice coin. I wish they would just make them all shiny like that though.
My guess would be $379.95 plus shipping, I think that this will be a very nice set. It sounds like a few folks are talking about buying and re-selling these sets, there will be alot of competition out there and this might hold prices down. For me I'll buy 3 or 4 sets to keep
The price doesn't matter if you can't order the product Oh well, I've said my peace. Good luck to all of us.....
100,000 sets ~ there's probably no rush, they should be available for 2 days or so. At least I hope so - lol The mint should really open up subscriptions on these sets, that would help out alot.

The lion's share of these sets are not going to be snagged by individual collectors who are presently debating whether they can scrape together enough to buy a single set. But rather, they will be gobbled up by the hundreds by dealers through their surrogate networks (friends, family members, employees, etc.). Attempt to order early and often to have any chance of getting
