Judging (very early though) from another forum and this, I figure this set's debut is very likely to incapacitate the Mint's servers. Some folks are already intending to have friends and family 'load up the truck' for them.

Next stop, the day after dream where I'm just a minute late to the party or totally have a senior moment that day...well that's part of the charm I guess. Not. This year has really been mad crazy. What's next?

the speculators will be into this set big time. If you by chance miss out on this when they become available, sit tight, because they will spike quickly after they go on sale, but then come back to earth shortly thereafter

I hope they don't push the smaller budgeted people out (me) as I would just like a single set if possible.
I'm currently trying to manage one of the 06 sets and the prices are all over the place yet...

I mostly want the reverse proof, seems most are in the mid 200's with the set mid 300's.

 

The 2006 3 pieces silver set was priced at $100 and limit was 10 sets per household. it took about 3-4 months to sell out. right now my quess is the price would be about $299.95.

You're probably right.
I buy my coins to keep them, but I have had several occaisions that I sold when money was tight, and I have had decent luck just for the reason you mention.

I sold my 1999 and 2001 silver proof sets a few years back for something like 600 bux for the pair.
Now I can replace them for around 200 bux. I bought them from the mint, so I had maybe 50 bux in them.

I sold my 1994 Jefferson coin/currency set (matte proof nickel) for over 100 bux. I got it from the mint for around 30.
I replaced it last month for 50.

I could go on and on. I don't plan it this way, but have had dumb luck many a time.
What you describe happens often.

 

Maybe we should make a plan to hold a contest to see who can guess the price? I don't really know how that could work though.
I would think it would be closer to somewhere around $359.95

You may be right TC. $399.95 was my first thought, but the more I thought about it, the more it sounded like it would be taking full advantage of collectors. That would be twice melt, and I just don't see how they could justify hitting everyone so hard. I guess the chances are close to nil, but just maybe they check the top forums to see what collectors think about their prices???

 

The Mint was selling the ASE proof for 59.95 if it sells all 5 at that price its $300

 

The mint will charge more then that just because they can, but then they will also make money on the fancy wooden box the coins will come in.

 

Well, I just checked the up coming products on the mint web site and the 2011 One Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin is showing a price of $60.45 at this time. Product is scheduled to go on sale 9/15.

 

So is there a particular reason to get this instead of just waiting for the anniversary set?
