Is it time to load up on the Grand Canyon P?

First, I think the P pucks are more collectable than non mint mark pucks (lower mintage PLUS a mintmark). Second the Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Is it not the best known of the national parks? Anyone else think this will be the fastest sell out?

What do base your opinion on?

It is evident in the post. If you are unable to interpret this then no one can explain it to you.

I too think it will be one of the more popular ones, although I don't know if that will translate to a faster sellout or not.

I think Hot Springs will continue to hold the record as having the quickest sell-out time, not because the park is anything great by any means, but simply because it was the first coin released and no one knew really what to expect. Now that we are used to the Mint's rhythm in releasing them, I think we will see a continuation of the same sales pattern as Yellowstone and Yosemite. Although it is true Grand Canyon gets the most visitors per year, it is pretty much a "one trick pony" (sorry, i couldn't resist), in that the canyon is pretty much what you get. With Yellowstone and Yosemite, however, you get a much more multi-faceted experience, with more diverse activities and things to see.

Even though the Grand Canyon is better known than the others and has more visitors than the others annually, I think fans of the national parks would place Yellowstone and Yosemite higher up the scale in terms of places they really enjoyed. Personally, I am a fan of the national parks and am buying these coins based upon what I like about the parks themselves and for no other reason. I don't own Hot Springs because I don't really like the place; I do own Yellowstone and Yosemite; and, I don't plan on owning Grand Canyon and Mount Hood (which isn't even a national park, by the way). The only 2011 coin I have an interest in owning is Glacier, as it is the only true national park (other than Olympic) that is being released for 2011. To make a long story even longer, I am saying I feel Grand Canyon will sell no better or no worse than Yellowstone and Yosemite.

Gettysburg and Vicksburg are the ones I would order (if I were to order). I like the designs and the "larger canvas" offers a larger venue in which to display these (MHO) beautiful designs. I also feel that a lot of the hype regarding these pieces has died down tremendously so that the possibility exists that these might be minted in short order. They may be popular among both collectors and Civil War buffs alike.

Future value will be determined by rarity, not how popular they were when the mint was selling them.

I subscribe to the thought that fast sellouts at the mint don't translate into future price increases. You will want to load up on the coins that nobody else wants.

I subscribe to the thought that low mintage, popular coins do well. Lincoln Coin & Chronicle. UHR is another that come to mind. LP1 Log Cabin mint sealed box is another.

Is 100,000 high for a modern? To me, no. To you, yes. The GC with a P are 27,000.

To me, anything over 15,000 is high mintage......

The Grand Canyon is awesome. But I don't want to buy a Grand Canyon 5oz silver coin.

Given the same mintage, I don't see any of the 2010 ATB's as a stand out.

I'm really hoping the Mint raises the mintage's on all the 2011+ coins.

I don’t know about that given that the sellout time is increasing with each new ATB coin…

Sale Figures for the First Five Days of Sale:
    Hot Springs – 25,000
    Yellowstone – 24,626
    Yosemite – 20,511

…but I do wish that the Mint would lower the price already!
