I can't answer your question about value, but must opine that even if "Abbott" was spelled wrong, creating the "error" you refer to, if all 172 bars are alike, and no correction was ever made by the mint, the "error" would carry no premium.

Sorry, no premium for them. When did the residents of the great house branch out from making only license plates?

    ms32462,

I also have that Greathouse Productions "Abbott & Costello" silver art bar in my collection. There is no extra premium for the mispelling error but that bar will fetch a large premium on ebay because it is a Greathouse silver art bar and there were not many of those made. The 4th edition of the Archie Kidd silver art bar price guide lists of the mintage at 175. Almost all of the Greathouse silver art bars that were minted during the 1970's and 1980's had low mintage numbers.

The Abbott & Costello Greathouse art bar will more than likely fetch a winning bid of between $60 and $75 on ebay. Ebay BIN prices on this particular Greathouse bar will be higher than $75.

The Greathouse Bicenntenial series will fetch a fairly decent premium on ebay but not as large as the Abbott and Costello art bar because of the different reverse types. There are 6 bars in the Greathouse American Bicentennial series and they are "Home of the Brave", "Let Freedom Ring", "Bi-Centennial '76", "Brotherhood", "God Bless America", and "Our flag was still there". I am going to be conservative here and say that each of these 1-oz silver art bars in this series will fetch a winning bid of between $10-$15 over spot silver on ebay. Ebay BIN prices on each of these 6 art bars are higher than $15 over spot. The mintage numbers for each of these 6 bars in this series range from 195 to 199 according to the 4th edition Archie Kidd silver art bar guidebook.

That is the exact silver art bar that the op was referring to. That link is accurate in that they are expensive to buy on ebay and it is very hard (nearly impossible) to find a Greathouse art bar locally for .999 generic silver premiums. A $200 winning bid for a certain Greathouse bar is not unheard of and it has happened before. As of this moment, I have failed to find a Greathouse art bar any where in my local area. The low mintages make Greathouse silver art bars very hard to find. The Greathouse silver art bars that I have in my collecton were all bought on ebay.

I will have to say that I am not really an expert. I still consider myself a student that is still learning about various silver art bars. I have been collecting silver art bar for only 3 years and I try to learn from the other collectors who have been collecting silver art bars for much longer than I have. The "tools of my trade" are my Archie Kidd silver art bar guidebooks. Those guidebooks have been very helpful to me especially when I need to get mintage number information. The Archie Kidd silver art bar guidebook is the "red book" for silver art bar collecting.
