Looks like both distributors are just sending slabbed BU's and a couple of 68's. Hmmm all those 69's in pop reports and you know they got a bunch of them. Where are they??? Anyone hear of anyone getting even one slabbed 69 from either of these 2 distributors? Bet no one gets one.
Based on what I've been reading here on CT, I'm guessing that the longer it takes for APMEX to send my set, the better my shot at getting 69's.
My first two early JH sets were raw and crummy. The third set I got last week is slabbed (it weighs 61 ounces) and will remain unopened. I hope you get all 69's, but IMO those went out to the Big Boys.
Anyone who thinks that most of these sets were not cherry picked is just nutz. Why do you think many of the coins being sent out now are already slabbed? Because they were cherry picking them to sell at higher prices, then the mint slapped them down. It would not at all suprise me if the companies who have these coins already slabbed have been buying up raw coins on the secondary market then sending those coins to customers to fulfill their agreement with the mint, while keeping the high grade coins to sell later. Otherwise they all would have lost money on the grading which even at their volume had to cost $30-50~ per coin. The set I got from APMEX was certainly the lowest quality while the Jack Hunt coins followed close behind. Others were pretty nice and the set I got from AMARK which was PCGS slabbed BU had 1-2 coins which would have probably graded 68+ and PL. But I think the nicest coins I got were from the companies like Fidelitrade who are not into the retail game.
I got one 69 from Jack Hunt and a 68 DMPL so I can't complain. I will let you know what I get in the APMEX set on Weds. Still no word from Dillon Gage
i got 3 69's from hunt and slung 'em on ebay, the auction went off at $1277. i cleared $1142 after shipping and everything, worked out to $76/oz.
SaltySam left a post on another thread and said he thinks his slabbed set from APMEX would grade a 66 on average. He thinks his MTB set would grade higher. I was talking to a buyer at Modern Coin Mart a few weeks ago, when they were buying the puck sets. He said, in general, the best coins he was seeing were from Amark.
I agree whole-heartedly! I thought I was buying uncherry picked/just placed in a generic holder coins, not all the 64/65/66/67's that they have left over :veryangry: My set from Apmex is due Tuesday, and I was planning to just put them away unopened. Now I'll have to crack the box and see which coins they felt like selling me :headbang: To me, it's the same as buying lottery tickets after the big prize has already been won.
Here's what Apmex sent me today: Hot Springs FS MS68 Yosemite FS MS68PL Grand Canyon FS MS68PL Mount Hood FS BU Yellowstone FS BU I will say this for them, this is the single best packaging job I have ever seen:
I give APMEX's shipping container an MS68! Really, the only similar double boxing I've seen is some of the speakers I've ordered - some of those internet direct outfits have shipping down to a science too. On to the interesting part. My APMEX set yielded: Grand Canyon MS68PL Yellowstone MS68DMPL Hot Springs MS68DMPL Yosemite MS68DMPL Mount Hood MS68DMPL I'm quite pleased as I almost managed to get a full MD68DMPL set in one swoop!
Dang thats a pretty sweet haul avr5700! I knew they were hoarding the good ones... I can't imagine how many MS69DMPL's they have stashed away. I am due to recieve my set from Dillion Gage tomorrow so hopefully i'll get some good ones in it. BTW avr5700, are you a home theater guy? That sounds like a Denon reciever number?
Lets be real here...what are the odds of anyone getting one thats not a 69? I bet more than 99% of them are 69 right out of the mint, as is all modern bullion. Those paying a premium on coins where there are only 2-3 real grades are in my opinion wasting a lot of money for nothing. Guy
Just received my AMPEX coins. Here's the grading tally: Hot Springs -- MS69 Yellowstone -- DMPL68 Yosemite -- DMPL68 Grand Canyon -- MS69 Mount Hood -- DMPL68 They do seem to be getting more generous as time goes by.
You mean't to say "odds of anyone getting one thats not a 68?", yes? Hot off the press, sure lots of 69s, it's the handling that follows that drops the ball and before long you get a fair number of much lower grades. Heck, the 68's I've got all have evident scuffs of one sort or another - often multiple. The bullion distribution channel isn't overly kind to the product.
