Anyone know why the CME has raised margins on silver FOUR SEPARATE TIMES in a week

Makes me think someone wants to lean on silver

This scenerio wouldn't surprise me ...

A bunch of well connected "big players" buy the double short silver ETF (ZSL) ... then they get the CME to lean on silver with these margin raises ... then they clean up as the price falls as the little guy panics and sells ... once the little guy is out at much lower prices ... the big guys come in and scoop up all the dumped physical silver

reminds me of what happened in the financial crisis

Bodie, Cloud and I were both buying silver in the 70's, just FYI.

It seems like the death of OBL has caused a major correction in the stock market as well as the silver market. What gives?

Well then, "Cloud" seems little too old to be making silly assumptions about my education and knowledge in the precious metals field, don't you think?

You know what happens when you assume? Sure you do.

I still see more downside to go on silver. IMO the next stop on the way down is $35. However, I also think that there will be some small up-moves during the overall down move towards $35. I am making a guess here but I think that within 3 weeks, silver will break $35 on the downside. Overall, I see silver going down to around $26 sometime during this Summer before it starts to somewhat rebound later in the year. I am still standing by my statement that silver will NOT hit $50 in 2011.

This is just my gut feeling speaking to me and I have nothing to back up my gut feeling. :)

if anything you seem to be the newbie picking the fighting...telling medoraman can't be taught and cloud doesn't seem to know much either...you've been here how long again? april 2011 it looks...

sit back and listen to cloud and medora more and argue less...I'd be willingto bet you'll agree with them if you listen more and argue less.

Also whether you actually know what's up or not isn't something we honestly would know...this is the internet..you could well me a 10 year kid just trying to cause trouble or a well educated man with all the experience in the world...

As for me I'm just a guy with a boatload of cheap silver, a couple cats, a laptop, and a loving fiancée...

And Soros one of the biggest shorters.

With the phenomenal track this has been on, a breather was in order. The fundamentals remain strong.

I'm just glad I don't have any leveredged contracts with silver. I know a guy who was wiped out, lock, stock and barrel on such a position and margin call.

CME raises or lowers margins depending on volatility and interest rates. The vertical increase in Silver a couple of weeks ago, increased volatility mor than CME felt they could cover if things continued vertical in one direction or another. If silver had advanced 25 cents/ session, I think the margin would not have increased. They were protecting their company. Yes, they were leaning on silver, to slow down the volatility, but that should have been expected and wasn't a surprise announcement.

Your scenario might be true , except for the part about getting CME to raise margins to help them ( the big boys). True, maybe the big boys reacted faster, but the shorts in silver ETF had already increased due to the volatility discerned by CME. The "big boys" would have ran it higher due to silver euphoria before hitting the market before raising the margin , IMO. Why not let it go to $60 and then dump it to this level.

My conclusion is that the pros were ready to flip to the down side, retail folks ( most of us) were not. In fact there are still several blogs and boards refusing to think it is anything more than a minor "correction". I think it is wrong to blame these events on other people or banks, etc. If a person has a big loss, it is their fault ( although I am sorry for them) for listening onlyto those who said silver to the $250, $500, etc. and did not want to listen to any voices on the other side.

Imagine what would happen to any country who had currency based on silver :) Precious metals can not be used to back currency in this economic and political world. Too thin a market and too easily manipulatred. IMO.

Reminds me of every consolidation of wealth the last 200+ years by the Rothschild banking dynasty, better known as Chase, JPM, and Rockefeller among others. At least they're consistent, and we can piggyback on their tactics. Of course, timing and scope is difficult to peg. Funny, I think one of those names has been involved in silver manipulation recently. Go figure.
