Just got an email from APMEX offering the first 2011 "big guys" for sale, effective immediately for shipment by May 20th. Sounds like things are starting to get moving at the Mint. Price is $580.00, paid by check for the pair. You have to buy the set of 2. Credit card is more.

Such a deal. The 2011 bullion coins cost more than the 2010 collector coins will. Hmmmmmmm. Which to buy LOL.

I'm tempted, but I might just sleep on it for a couple of nights. I just sold some silver and took a nice profit. I may spend that profit on a handful of these.

I'm going to take a breather on this one. I have no designs for making a complete set. On Friday, once the activity dies down, I try and get one of the collector coins and then call it quits. I'll return to collecting my regular stuff and leave the bullion to the investors. I do admit, it was a fun ride with lots of excitement. Good luck to all those who will be there for the final release and issue.

I'm about where you're at. I had plans to get the whole set of 52 coins in both versions, but the 2011 mintages are so high that I can't justify the premium. Maybe if silver takes a breather in a year or two.

I ended up with 7 sets of the 2010 bullion coins and sold 3. The remaining 4 I'm holding onto since they were bought at close to $9/oz under spot. Even if they turn out to carry no numismatic premium at all in future, they were a sound bullion purchase. I'll hopefully get a complete set of the 2010 collector coins too as I can just about justify the price given the mintage. i think a full set of 2010s will hold a good premium in future.

I agree, as it seems the Mint now has the production issues under control. There seems to be no great rush to get the 2011s, but who really knows.

If you hold out and not buy any then the price should go even lower. In case you don't know yet, there are many collectors who are taking this route b/c when the 2010's came out they were way overpriced. Now that the 2011's have come out they seem to be a bit cheaper and in most cases alot cheaper. So what happened?? I think ppl realized that it may be a better idea just to stock up on ASE's. Just my opinions and thoughts.

Let's start a movement for a 5-ounce ASE. If China and Mexico can do it, why can't we?

[FONT=&quot]I ordered a set as well, but after I ordered I'm starting to wonder if APMEX is gouging us (again) on the premium. $5.99 per ounce over spot is nearly $60 for the pair.

That's funny! I think the mint will continue with the ATB's. That said, you're all set and you got a great price too! Of course I do feel the price will go down even lower tho'. Sure, nobody will lose money buying these 2011 unless they paid too much but the ppl who bought the 2010's for all that crazy money may find themselves in a sling. I'm just sayin.

I gave in this morning and bought two sets from APMEX. Two's enough. One as a keeper, one for possible future resale.

These are very pretty coins....can I get these in 1 oz form? I'm not a collector and I really don't want to get into the collecting side, I just like the designs....

As low as $5.99 over spot - if you buy 50 sets. Otherwise, more like $9 over.

Gainesville Coins is advertising them for $5.75/oz over spot, no minimum.

The Mint really needs to do something about the ridiculous premiums that are being charged by these distributors... Everybody should be afforded the same opportunity to purchase the bullion at the premiums they pay.

More gov't oversight? No thanks. Vote with your pocketbooks and purchase elsewhere, that's what the mass would have to do. Don't wait for some empty suit politician to create yet another policy.

I am sure if you purchased millions of dollars worth of bullion, in large easy to ship boxes they would charge you the same as the distributors. Unfortunately, someone needs to take time to break down the big boxes, put into many many smaller boxes, and pay shipping that is much higher (per the value in the box) to get the coin to you...not to mention the cost of employees, the building, and more that is necessary to make it all happen. There are reasons the distribution system exists....trust me, if the mint sold to you the price would be much higher than the distributor selling to you....look at the markup on coins from the mint, it is much higher.

Keep the government where it belongs...don't let them be involved in markets....price too high, don't buy...when the mass does that it is a drop in demand and pricing will drop accordingly. Let the market decide the price, not the government.

I agree. I'm guessing that a lot of companies that took bailout money would agree too...with an asterisk!
