I see on the Mint News Blog where the Mint has set the price for the numismatic version of the Arkansas Hot Springs 5 Oz coin @ $280...about what the bullion versions go for on eBay! ...coincidence? If you bought the bullion coins, do you feel obligated to continue with the numismatic versions? ...or are these coins too pricey? After chastising the AP's for price gouging, do you think it's right for the Mint to charge a 40% premium?
No way. Not me. $80 mark up? Are you nuts? But then again part of me wants to get them b/c I think they might be a total flop and therefore might become rare. That is kind of a speculative move for an item I don't even really like that much. But DAMN that is a hefty markup. If I stay with these ATB's at all it will be the bullion versions and just an interesting way to hoard some silver.
The 5 quarter silver proof set has .904234 troy ounces of silver and sells for about $41, thus Buy silver quarter proof set from Mint at ~$45/oz. Buy 5oz silver quarter from US mint at $56/oz. iMO, the longer term numismatic value will be with the silver proof coins.
That is a darn good point Fatima. Plus the silver quarter proofs can be used in a Soda machine if you really need a Diet Coke. I just tried that with my ATB 5oz and it wouldn't fit.
