    I was wrong.

I was wrong. I congratulate everyone who bought the UHRs for investment purposes and for those who bought them because they thought they were beautiful---I'lm lost for words.

I was not even aware that they are currently being featured in Coin World, which I guess may have some impact on the current market.

I bought 2 of them as my first major purchases, for many reasons, but once I got them in hand I found them to be so beautiful I don't think I could ever part with them. I have one graded at MS70 and left it's twin sister in the raw, personally I like looking at the raw coin more as the slabs sort of clutter things a bit, but they are both amazing.

I certainly feel bad for those who missed out as I think it has a lot of potential left and will go down in history as one of the great coins to have.

Well, makes me feel better knowing that the $1189 I laid out back then has appreciated somewhat. I'm more used to stuff I buy directly from the mint diminishing in value. :)

These coins continue to do very well on the secondary market. I felt and urged far back in these UHR threads, that those calling these coins 'bullion' were way off in their predictions. The NGC MS 70 PLs currently retail over $4k! If you get one of those back from submitting you have potentially really appreciated somewhat for buying one of these.

These are probably the most beautiful coins issued by the US Mint. The only thing better would be if they issued a two ounce version that had the same diameter as a standard double eagle.

I agree. However I'd really like buy the same design coin in 1 1/2oz or 2oz weight. Wasn't the original 1907 UHR a thinner larger diameter coin?

I think our next best shot is going to be a Palladium UHR if I recall correctly which should be pretty amazing as well. 1/2 oz or 2 oz versions would be pretty sweet too.

The Mint did produce an ultra high relief with a diameter of 27-mm back in 1907 (two actually reside in the Smithsonian) by taking two $10 gold eagle planchets and melding them together to achieve the higher relief. This process was abondoned as the mint soon realized it would need approval of congress in order to produce the coins this way.

I bought mine last fall for $1833.00 That was a real bite at the time - a coin dealer told me $1650.00 tops. But I couldn't resist.

Now, I don't feel too bad.

I'm not sure how well the idea for the Palladium UHR Eagle is holding up, but the Palladium Eagle has gotten some focus in the last several months. I have been tracking articles about them but I haven't seen any new articles for a little over a month at this point and we are already past the first quarter of 2011 now. I'd love to see a palladium piece added to the Eagle line up though I doubt it will be 1/2 ounce or 2 ounce. I'm fairly certain they would be denominated at $25 in an ounce of palladium -and- not likely, UHR. It would be wonderful if a numismatic version was done in proof like UHR while the bullion strikes were thinner for stacking like other bullion eagles.

Krispy! Where you bean? ...thought you went to the Philippines to look for Elaine. :kisshand:

I bought one when they first came out @ $1189...and then, with just a minute left before going off sale, bought another @ $1495. It hurt to pay that much more for the same coin, but it was worth it!

I'm very happy that I got one of these from the mint when they were selling them. More than 100% appreciation even ungraded examples now.

I'm still around, just been busy busy. :)

I got my UHR $1,339. So I was happy with my purchase some time ago when gold passed that range.

    Just one?

I think Elaine bought about fifteen of them as I recall.

Yeah, I usually just go in for one when it comes to the numismatic versions, sometimes more, but not too often with the higher ticket items. As far as UHR goes, I had intended to get one from the Mint in OGP and later get one graded, but the graded ones have taken off so I haven't gotten one of those from secondary market dealers yet.

Elaine may have bought one UHR but she always complained about the coins small size. I guess she likes 'em big not small and thick , sort of like her lust for 'all time record high' gold prices, and skyrocketing predictions for PMs that she never much could share with us any evidence that she really had a vault full of 200 units of every new Mint product that was released. I guess she was good at predicting winners on paper but a paper-tiger when it came to actual ownership of the same things. :(

Anyway, back to UHRs... no soap operas needed here without her being part of it too. :)
