FishyOne, those are great pictures. You make the coins look really good. I had to go look at mine again to confirm my initial impressions. My conclusion is these coins are ugly, but you can make them look pretty good with a camera:devil:

I have been keeping an eye open to make a purchase. The fact that funds are tight does not seem to be much of any issue, as none of the dealers I checked have any on stock. APMEX has an alert for me.

Well it will be nice to see one. Chances are I will not be able to get one. I've got my eyes on the Army issues now.

Fedex just came to my door a day early! Of the bunch the Yosemite is by far the nicest with very mirror like fields. Overall I would say it is a solid 68 with a shot at 69, the rest are probably a combo of 65-68's.

Not entirely thrilled with the PCGS slabs. I was excited at first cause hey free slabbing, why not! But the lack of an actual grade bothers me enough to where I was considering sending them in anyway. Plus they have a milky center portion surrounding the coins which does not allow you to see the edge lettering which kinda sucks.

Overall opinion is that I'm sure a nice high grade set of 69's would look great but since they are so big every little flaw is very noticeable. I hope QC/packaging on the numismatic versions is better. My friend is bringing his set over tomorrow so we can compare quality, plus I have a set still coming from Fidelitrade so hopefully I can get a nice high grade set together. :)

If anyone is planning on cracking the ungraded PCGS slabs provided by A-mark, here is a link to a company that is selling the appropriate holders.

    http://www.air-tites.com/america_the_beautiful_coin_holders.htm

I think I will since it makes them seem more up close and personal and less clinical than a slab. If they were graded, however, I would stick with the slabs. Just a personal preference.

Going by the reasons you give, I don't understand how a couple of extra characters printed on the label changes your mind about leaving them in the slabs or not, let alone how does opting for the capsules make the purpose of protection any different than the coins being left in "ungraded" slabs. If you bought the A-Mark slabbed BU FS coins in PCGS plastic, then you have already paid for more than adequate conservation/protection of the coins. To go out and reverse that, risking damage to your coins in the process of 'cracking', then to buy more capsules doesn't make a lot of financial sense. The Air-Tites.com capsules you are buying for these may not even be as air tight as the PCGS slabs are so you are essentially taking your risks with conservation in the process of electing this route. If you want the coins raw, then you should buy them that way on the secondary market if you cannot get them from the APs who sell them raw. If you want a specific coin at a particular grade provided by a TPG's evaluation, then you should buy them on the secondary market at the grades you seek.

No one said anything about a contest but you !

It's based on the grades & the TPG co. you choose

The most important factor in determining value is condition

    You know that Krispy :hail:

I have no idea what you are talking about. I haven't been able to find anything on the NGC nor the PCGS web sites about any such contests or chances to win these coins. I know PCGS has a monthly coin giveaway but I haven't seen these coins in the newsletter where they normally announce the coins and the winners. Please provide a link if you have something to share about whatever it is you are being vague about in mentioning.

I think he is saying that the contest is among those who are submitting the coins to graders. He who gets the highest grade wins.

    The TPG sweepstakes.

    A bit of humor?

My AMark order number was in the high 1600s, I wonder why mine haven't shipped yet. It seems like they were going sequentially, but I've seen people on other forums with much higher order numbers that have already gotten their sets. I'm so sick of waiting for them. I've wanted a set since the mint first announced they were going to make these coins. So frustrating.
