I just purchased a 2010 Libertad kilo today. Please tell me what I am missing as compared to the ATB bullion coins. Libertad cost: $1,295.00 (raw) ATB cost: $2,500.00 (raw) Libertad weight: 32.15 ounces ATB weight: 25 ounces Libertad strike: Proof-like ATB strike: Uncirculated Libertad appearance: Stunning ATB appearance: So-So Libertad packaging: Laser-engraved wooden presentation box Numbered certificate of authenticity Plastic capsule ATB packaging: Wrapped in plastic Libertad mintage: 1,700 ATB mintage: 33,000 In light of the above, can someone tell me, in the name of common sense, why I want the ATB bullion discs? I'm just not getting it.
Unfortunately the ATB 5 oz. is no longer looked upon as mere bullion, but as a bona fide numismatic, collectable coin. The current frenzy to collect enables the secondary market to command these crazy premiums despite the head to head advantage that you posted in favor of the Kilo Libertads. Steve
Ah, Treehugger, that is the real question! Your opinion is equal to mine. I have no concrete formula, or clear crystal ball to even guess on such a time table. It really is a unique situation with Silver still rising, only 33,000 sets of the coins being minted, the Television Shows such as HSN hyping. No one knows. Congrats on your Libertad Purchase. I did not know that the Kilo Libertad existed. Can I ask how much they cost. Do you have a pic? Thanks! Steve
Steve, they typically sell for about $1,500.00, but a person on ebay wanted to sell some of his collection, so he accepted my offer of $1,295.00. http://www.apmex.com/Product/57115/...KILO_3215_Ounce___Brilliant_Uncirculated.aspx
With the kilo Libertad, you are paying $40.28 cents per ounce, compared with about $28 spot price. True , it is better than the price per ounce of the ATB,and you get a wooden box with it, which could contribute to toning, but still quite a premium, so one should probably consider it a collector item also. It is a personal choice.
Easy - cause you can buy them cheap right now and sell them for a ridiculous profit. You are only taking into consideration Ebay prices... Price from the AP's for the ATB set is about $950 give or take with shipping which puts the price per ounce almost identical to your Libertad. If you want to sell your Libertad on Ebay maybe you will get $1500, but as you stated you will get closer to $2,000+ for the ATB set. It is all about supply and demand and i'm sorry but there is just not that much demand for Libertads which is why you were able to buy one at closer to spot price. I was able to get a set from APMEX, sold it and made enough profit to get my money back, plus enough to buy a Libertad and still had money left over...
JJK, I agree with you. I would buy a set at that price also, but I don't think that same situation can be had anymore. I think the APs have sold all of theirs. If I was lucky enough to find a set at that price, I would hold onto it rather than sell it, though, as I just want it for my collection.
