Let me first lay out what I currently own and have been buying for about 12 months now: Morgan Bars 1 ounce Sunshine Bars 10 ounce 2010 Eagles = 40 Engelhard Loafs 10 ounce ASE 2010 Proofs = 5 2010 Quarter Proofs = 10 sets ATB 5 Ounce set = 1 My question is now that I have the ATB 5 ouncers I am really falling in love with the bigger coins. I am in this for long term investments but I really like the looks of the kilo Kooks. Any thoughts on these? Thanks in advance
I think they're really cool. I don't own any Perth Mint items over 1 oz but the size of the kilo coin is impressive. I've never done any research on them, so don't know about production numbers or premiums. I'm sure others will chime in with info.
I love Australian Bullion!! The detail is wonderful. I mean wonderful! The Kooks in the 1 ounce size are very popular as are the 1 ounce Silver Kangaroo Series with their low, low mintage. Many of the major distributers list several of the years "Out of Stock." I feel the Australians really know how to perfect a beautiful piece. I seen a KOOK kilo once in Medford, Oregon last summer. STUNNING! All these items mentioned would make any collector proud to own. Good Luck with these. You'll love em!
Many of the Perth Mint products are really nice looking, but the premium over spot is often substantial. It depends on your purpose: collecting versus investing. TC
Depends on your goals. If you like the big coins and want some silver from down under, by all means pick up a big Aussie kilo round. You don't get the most silver for your buck but they are sweet. I noticed you listed 10oz Engelhard loaf style bars. I love poured bars and they are a great way to go too. Name brand bars are great for long term holds.
This might be a source of future problems. As the old saying goes, don't fall in love with your investments. Investments don't care if you own them. I don't know how you define "long term" but if you are talking about some predetermined time frame such as 10 or 20 years, the investment return is likely to be disappointing. I like silver and gold a lot, but also realize that the time will come when the proper investment move will be to sell. If you are in love with your bullion, chances are you won't make the correct move. It is important to separate your holdings into the collectibles and the investments and to never confuse the two. Good luck.
