I would hope that the AP wasn't in collusion with Coin Vault as that would jeopardize their AP status. If the coins are in-hand, wouldn't their only source be APMEX at this point? Curious.
Care For Some Salt To Go With That Wound? What I can't believe are the people on ebay who are selling these at 3 times their issue price and still have the testiculars to add a shipping charge.
Haha, that is kind of low. I figured I'm making so much profit that I can swallow the $7 shipping and insurance (at most).
Yeah that is pretty hard to believe. I offered free priority overnight shipping and along with insurance cost me about $45, not to mention my auction ended at about 3pm Monday and once I verified payment I left work an hour early ship it as ASAP got to the post office 5 minutes before they closed and the buyer recieved it at 9am this morning - 18 hours after the auction ended. After all of my costs including Ebay fees, Paypal, USPS and the free 2010 Silver Eagle proof I made $1462 profit and am damn happy about it, hard to believe some folks are so greedy they would nickel and dime you to death!
That sounds like a sweet deal for everyone, John. The buyer must have been happy as hell with that kind of service. Don't you wish you could do that about once a week? I knew about the ebay fees, but wasn't really sure Paypal did also. Now I know why some of the items on ebay seem a little pricey, with everyone taking their cut.
I'm a little baffled by the ebay pre-sale auctions indicating the coins will be available in "early 2011". They have a lot of bidders. There's no guarantee the sellers will even get the coins. The bidders are committing themselves to a very high price when they could possibly do better on their own when the rest of the coins are released. http://cgi.ebay.com/2010-SILVER-5-O...682?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53e5693052
Yeah at least Ebay has capped their fees at $50 plus listing fees... Paypal still gets a full 3% I believe and on $2550 it cost me $75 to use Paypal so yeah everyone gets their cut. Ebay and Paypal and making oodles of cash off us but oh well.
This Will Make Your Day You really have to see this to believe it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Book-Sellers-Am...080?pt=US_Nonfiction_Book&hash=item1c1835fac8 My face hurts from laughing so much. If anybody buys this, I will agree society is being "dumbed-down" at an alarming rate.
At first his made my brain hurt. But then I realized that maybe it's just a ploy to get people to realize they should not buy them off ebay. If that is true, then good for him.
Email update from MCM: Dear ModernCoinMart Customer, I'd like to take this opportunity to update those who are interested in purchasing the National Parks 5 Ounce Silver Coin sets. Many of you have been asking us when we will have them and what the pricing structure will be. In my last letter to you I explained that as the largest online retailer of certified modern coins your expectations of us are very high and the last thing we want to do is to offer a product and then withdraw it, or change the rules concerning purchase and pricing dramatically. For this reason, we have and will continue to proceed with thoughtfullness in every way possible with regard to the offering of these coins. Because of the low mintage and current demand you may be aware that sales have already taken place in the marketplace between $2000 and as high as $3500 per ungraded or NGC graded "Gem BU" set. While my instinct tells me this is temporary because the supply will soon dramatically increase as distributors start to sell more sets, we must go out and buy sets at far more than I would really like to pay and that will be reflected in the price we charge. Regardless of what the U.S. Mint mandates with regard to distributor pricing, the secondary market where we obtain the coins is the ultimate determinate on real world current prices. We are doing our best to obtain the product and having some limited success. I estimate that we will have NGC graded Gem BU sets (generally MS65 to MS68 quality, perhaps averaging MS67) along with NGC MS68 and MS69 sets for sale by the third or fourth week of January. We will begin taking non binding pre-order requests on January 4th, however where we normally estimate the price it will simply be labeled as "unknown". By mid January, we will replace "unknown" with estimated prices. MS70 sets may not be offered at all, due to the average quality being estimated at MS67 to MS68. This information is ONLY our best guess. In setting our prices one factor is obviously cost, but the ability to obtain additional product and the demand for the product are even more important. Non- Distributor competitor pricing is also a big factor. I previously warned of “sticker shock” when we do offer these for sale but stated that I hope by communicating with you in advance you will understand the intention is to simply have the product for those that wish to obtain it at prices that are in line with what is actually taking place in the market. At this time, we are not planning on offering uncertified coins, but that might change. The NGC holder provides excellent storage, is attractive, and will fit nicely (of course the holder itself is oversized) in many of your certified coin collections. So for now, if you are interested in obtaining an NGC certified set, we suggest you go to our website on or after the 4th of January, and put in a pre order request. You may already be familiar with how this works but if not, it's a very simple process whereby you will be notified when the coins are in stock and can purchase them at that time but are not obligated, and no upfront money is required. Thank you for making 2010 our best year ever. On behalf of myself, my partner Jay Rudo, and our entire staff, we wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year! Sincerely, John Maben CEO, JMRC/ ModernCoinMart 5565 Broadcast Court Sarasota, FL 34240
Thats a poor excuse for financially raping a customer . If they sold the items according to mint requirements, folks won't be buying those $3,000.00 offerings on EBAY, they would be buying from them. Either way, I'm so disenchanted with this entire fiasco and I think most of the numismatic community will eventually snub their collective noses up at this issue, and many folks will be taking very significant losses if they are buying in at those prices.
What a load... Yeah that email from MCM is basically just asking you to go ahead and unbutton your pants if you want a graded set from them... then about mid January is when you will hear the rubber glove pop as they prepare to... well no need for details there, but there is just no way the ridiculous prices will hold up once they become more widely available. Premeditated rape is all that is. So what's your guess for a MS69 set? I'll say they ask $4000 maybe more depending on how the grading turns out...
Found some for a pretty good deal! http://www.mintproducts.com/product.php?productid=17721&cat=106&page=1 :rollling:
