Yeah I am figuring that the hype is gonna die down on these once APMEX starts to sell the rest of their allotment etc. I must say I would really like to get an MS70 graded set so this money is gonna go towards that. Hopefully I'll be able to buy a graded set for what these sell for
Thanks Krispy! Insanity is right - 41 watchers now on my auction. Makes me wish i was more prepared to sell other stuff, my auctions never get 41 watchers!
If it were me, I'd take the money and run. I have been quoted as saying that this is just like the First Spouse program. The coins are going to sell out for the first couple of times, but in the long run the enthusiasm will fizzle out and these will become bullion issues. If that happens, short of silver hitting $400/ounce I think that the $2000 on eBay is an apparition.
It's kind of fun to watch all this going on and I agree that those who sell now will show a profit from those who can't wait to own one. Personally, I just want a single coin for my type collection and will wait a year or two to buy one at lower prices. If the prices remain high, I'll simply buy a coin from a future run, years from now. To me it's like the 1995-W Proof American Eagle, nice to look at but I have no obsession to own one. Desire yes, but obsession no. It's all a personal thing and these will never be considered a rarity, but good luck to those who hope it will. I can live with it either way.
Thanks for the pictures, people. For now, I'll just have to look at them and hope the interest in them wanes so I can own a set someday (after you all sell yours, of course.)
Well I don't think you will have to wait too long... I have noticed more and more sets showing up on Ebay with actual pictures, and the "pre-sale" guys seem to be lowering their prices...
What really is surprising are the "no bids" with just hours to go on the auctions. Probably some snipers waiting to grab them cheap at the last second or maybe there are just fewer bidders the day after Christmas.
Yeah I wouldn't be suprised if there are some snipers that will bid on those. I see 2 that are now ahead of my 3 day auction which also means they just did 1 days auctions and haven't been seen by that many folks. I can tell you for sure that there is a lot of interest out there as my auction has 59 people watching it now!!
Please excuse my ignorance, but it is just so damned hard to keep track of what is going on with all of the confusion. Are these things sold out now? Or are there still further allotments remaining to be sold? Signed up for the alerts on APMEX two weeks ago and haven't heard a peep from them...
As far as I know, APMEX is the only dealer to have sold any of these. They have announced that they are accepting their full allotment of 3000, so at some point, they will be offering another 2000 sets for sale. I don't know about the other dealers.
Check out the new Coinworld, it explains it all. Bascially though, they will not go on sale again until 3JAN2011
Thanks for the news! I wonder how the TPG's are going to handle the delays with regard to early release and first strike designations? I wonder what is going to happen to prices of these sets in the secondary market once the remaining sets are released? I assume they will drop but just how much is the question... I currently stand corrected as for now prices are continuing to climb. By the time my auction ended I had 98 people watching it, and although I did throw in a free 2010 Silver Eagle Proof bidding went nuts and it sold for $2550... crazy... CRAZY BUT I"LL TAKE IT!!!
The Coin Vault TV infomercial is selling sets of these in MS69 for $3999.95! Selling BU sets at $3500. Totally insane. I know their prices are usually high, but wow...
