There is someone on eBay claiming he has a set in hand. He even has pictures of them on a table top in his Home. Opening bid of $2000 with a "buy it now" of $3000. Could these be just regular America the Beautiful State Quarters in 2X2 flips? I don't see any edge lettering, but the pictures don't address this. He only has feedback as a buyer, not seller, and he lists himself as in the US, but no city. Also says "no returns" in his listing. Maybe you will have to find him first to discuss any problems with non-delivery?

I would contact that seller and ask them to confirm exactly what is being sold or auctioned . I'm not sure how they could possibly have the 5 oz ATB Set in hand, but with all that has happened with this set, nothing would surprise me at this point.

I received the same exact notice as deuce78 yesterday. The only difference was that because I paid by check, the shipping and handling is only $19.95 and they said they will be including a check for the refund. I ordered only one set originally.

    Morning everyone,

I chatted with an APMEX rep last week and she told me they were supposed to get the rounds in by Friday, last week and were going to try and have them shipped out this week or next. Hopefully they'll be here in early January. My account has already been refunded, so no worries there. Just sitting and waiting to to see if Santa is bringing my bullion.

Speaking of Ebay - look at this jackass. Selling NGC graded coins for $4K buy it now... what grade you ask... OH WHATEVER.

Please keep in mind, 5 oz coins are new and it is anyone's guess as to how these may grade. They could be a MS60 or a MS70...that is the unknown. If ONE of these were to grade a MS70, that coin alone could be worth the entire value of what you paid for this set.

    Congratulations!!

So if they have them, and they know how many sets they pre-sold, one wonders why the remainder have yet to be listed...

    Howdy,

Hope someone is getting product. I talked with my local shop - Liberty Coins in Lansing (Pat Heller writes a bit in NN) - and they said the coins have been sent to the distributors, but they are refusing to sell the coins under the new terms from the mint. I hope the dealers win out as they are simply business peeps while I firmly believe there is some criminality taking place at the mint. I'd like to see a special prosecutor appointed to investigate this and the last several years of mint activity - say, back to 2006. As for Moy, the swine should be flogged on the steps of the mint.

    peace,

Okay; I'm a new member and this is my first post. I've been enjoying this site for a number of weeks now. Anyway, I just wanted to say I've seen pictures of the actual "coins" on ebay and from a visual perspective, they seem pretty uninteresting. I'll leave the supply/demand/scarcity commments to those more expert than I. Actually, they would more properly be called medallions rather than coins. Also, the words "quarter dollar" on a 5 ounce "coin" is pretty humorous, if not ridiculous. As psyched as I was about the release of these, as I love our national parks and based on the visual appeal of the actual America the Beautiful quarters, I am less so now.

Would I like a set at $170.00 per coin? Sure. Would I like a set at ebay prices of $500.00 per coin? No way. If I was going to spend that amount and wanted something big that could actually be called a coin, with "eye appeal" and appreciation potential, I would much rather have a "key date" 5 ounce Libertad.

Anyway, congratulations to all who obtained them at a reasonable price. I hope to do the same sometime in the future.

    Happy Holidays!

Please explain how a legal tender issue with a specified face value made by the US mint would not properly be called a coin. You may not like it or care to buy it, but that has no bearing on what it is. I could say that a Porsche Carrera is not a "car", that it is more properly called a "toy", but that doesn't change the fact that it has 4 wheels, a motor and can be legally driven on public roads.

Ah the price gouger set! Wish I had enough to buy a set but not to resell because a set that comes out with such notoriety as to be known as the "price gouger" set may not do too well on the resale market. good luck buyers!

Wasn't it P.T. Barnum who was quoted as saying " Theres a sucker born every minute " ?

He's been quoted as saying it, but the credit most likely should be long to a Mr. David Hannum. But Barnum got the last laugh and his image on the Bridgeport commemorative.

It's debatable if PT Barnum said those words. ;)http://www.historybuff.com/library/refbarnum.html

I think it was Mint Director Moy and the US Congress
