Agreed that is a good point. Wouldn't it be funny if we were chatting with our own coworkers and didn't know it online? LOL....

Yeah that is certainly a possibility. If that is the case, then I guess they feel more comfortable talking about PM's on an online forum since they are using their online screen names instead of their real names.

I feel much more anonymous here. It's a lot easier to get my thoughts out and ask questions than to converse with a coworker standing right in front of you. Talking about PM's I suppose is like talking about wages. It's just a taboo topic...

It's amazing the media channels are still making such gross generalized comments like this on air and haven't in the past 2-3 years, having observed the markets going into this and bearing the reality of the jobs numbers, figured out how to express headlines taking into consideration: the numbers of long term unemployed not covered in these reports (those who have/are currently falling off benefits), the various waves of sectors already hit, recovered and now responsible for hiring who are effecting these monthly numbers (those sectors now coming out of their recession) and the new sectors still being hit by the wave of effects slow to touch other sectors adding new jobless claims. It seems there is still strong support by the White House administration for further jobless aid pressuring statements made by the opposition following the November elections to recognize this and include further protection, effectively calling them to stand up to their claims or to shrink away if it proved to be opposition rhetoric. There is an interesting front page story that showed up late yesterday on the NY Times website about this, which was followed by these jobless numbers reported today, if interested in reading (requires free account sign-in at the Times): Obama Seeking Aid for Jobless in Any Deal on Tax Cuts

I think most people feel the same way and also get their fears out of their system by posing questions / seeking advice online. If that is the case, I think it's better done online than in person, makes for less serious discussion in our everyday life interactions and we can leave all the references and links to online sources in support of our arguments rather than getting mired in less than informed discussion when we cannot point to this or that article, chart, etc. :smile

I also feel much more anonymous here and on other gold and silver online forums. Gold and silver forums are the only place that I know if that is friendly to discussions about PM's in terms of collecting and investing in them.

Yeah I noticed that too. I wonder if Krispy and Elaine got a "divorce". :)

I wish someone would make a cartoon showing the President making grand speak. Standing on stage and declaring that the number of people losing their jobs has declined significantly. Then it pans out and you see 100+ million people there with no jobs. Someone shouts, "There's no jobs left to lose!!"

It would be such a simple cartoon yet makes such a huge point in what we hear from our great feds.....

Guys, I'm not sure why we are invoking our dearly departed OP here now, but I will say that I never knew her prerogative here or in collecting coins but I felt from very early on that she was a complete hack. I have long questioned her actual intent and ability, even warned those ready to gobble up her message to be wary basing decisions on things she posts, and offered her own contradictions as proof for being cautious. Ultimately, I think she just was enamored by the shiny metals, the mintage numbers and in speculating about PM prices on paper-- in what profit could mean if one really had vast sums to profit from. She disappeared a couple of times and each time she says she is too busy dealing with stock trading(?). She certainly seemed adept at running numbers and 'speculating' or maybe just understanding other PM analyst's speculation that fit her dream scenarios, but I don't feel she was really into anything heavily. Perhaps just a dreamer.

You ought to doodle one out and send this description with it in to the New Yorker.

Please tell me, what is 'a complete hack'? On one hand it sounds derogatory, like describing someone as a nut job; almost like,'quick, look the other way'. On the other hand, (reading the rest of your post) you describe enthusiasm based on dreams, I suppose.

I would like to know what makes someone a 'complete hack' to this forum. Is it lack of ability?

    Thank you,
    Lucyray

As I said, I don't know why that member was invoked today as it takes us off topic, but in response to your inquiry, it's simply my opinion of that member based on a perspective I've formed after numerous inaccuracies and contradictions she has made throughout the forum sections in numerous threads. When asked directly she typically evades reply, explanation or supporting proof of her claims and comments. Her saying of one thing but not-doing the very things herself as she has promoted, or advised others to do leads me to this conclusion. I am open to being corrected by this member, which I have also freely stated previous to today's comment.

And now back to the show, currently:

Gold: $1,407.20 -- High so far today $1,409.90
Silver: $29.18 -- High so far today $29.34

    Platinum: $1,729

    Palladium: $770

Very interesting thoughts. Last year when I was just scouring the forum, I picked up on her the most, I guess because at the time she was posting a lot and thought she was one of the wiser ones around here. Not knowing too much, I had thought a lot of the numbers she posted were of some significance (meaning she ran some numbers, did some homework)...

I don't have any issues with people guessing what they feel PM prices will be, because no one really knows anyways. For the most part, I think most people here are just normal folks asking random questions to better themselves.

A "hack" is just someone who isn't what they claim to be. So if you say you are an expert economist, but you can't really debate and articulate your points, or you really don't know the subject as well as you say you do. Then that usually describes a hack.

When you hear the term "hack job". It's someone who started a project and never really finished it properly.....

Absolutely, none of us know. Yet many are impressionable, especially those who arrive with questions and who may take direction without doing the learning applicable to their own personal situation(s) and goals themselves, taking an undue risk by following the advice of unknown and less than forthcoming others who harbor their own personal goals and biases or who may just be playing around here.

I certainly don't know where the ceiling is, but I believe it could go higher than $30. I have a feeling that it will ratchet upward as long as the unemployment rate is greater than 8%, which is likely for another decade. I think $40 is likely with $50 being a possibility. Over the past months, I have had an awakening. It is not nearly as soft as I once thought.

What? UE greater than 8% for a decade!!!?? I never really thought it would be that bad for that long...

And what exactly isn't soft as you thought?

This is where the more conservative minded folks would jump in and let "newbies" know that they should step back a little and evaluate what they want to do. Not that it would be our jobs but I have noticed more are fair minded here and if someone is cheering with pom pom's, someone will step in to balance the viewpoint a little bit.....

Thank you for your definition; that's what I wanted to know. I was wondering if I was a hack job too, since I really don't have investment knowledge, foresight, experience, etc.. Things I might question, or comment on are only based on my own experience or feelings; not financial know-how. Regarding this bullion investing forum, as I have posted before, I am here to learn what I can as I take my own journey; trying to become less ill equipped for decisions I must make.

    Kind regards,
    Lucy
