You must have been asleep at the keyboard, Chris.....old news already http://www.cointalk.com/t131804/
Reload the program and and go to repair or reload to correct the files. This my correct the problem. How old is the printer? Good luck. -O)
there was no disc with my computer. I have XP Pro and all I had to do was plug in the printer/scanner and it "found new hardware" and I went through the wizard and in a minute I was in business. When I go to find the file for the scanner there is nothing there except for an empty folder. I can't find any other files for it.
right after i posted this, i found another thread below it. someone posted this link which goes into greater detail of why scanners wont do money http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~sjm217/projects/currency/ from this thread http://www.cointalk.com/t91857/
So, once again, we are all on the same page. It is important to do the research to establish the ground level. That said, we are all here pretty much on our own. The best thing would be for everyone to try scanning notes and report your results: Make and model of printer. Scanning software Notes date series signature. Remember, there are two different problems: scanning; and printing.
Printer/Scanner- Canon MP480 Printing pre-2008 Canadian banknotes- yes Printing post-2008 Canadian banknotes-yes Scanning pre-2008 Canadian banknotes- yes Scanning post- 2008 Canadian banknotes- no Printing pre- 2004 U.S. banknotes- yes Printing post- 2004 U.S. banknotes- yes Scanning pre- 2004 U.S. banknotes- yes Scanning post- 2004 U.S. banknotes- no
diggit, are you absolutely sure of your post above? You can PRINT a post-2004 US banknote but you cannot SCAN a post-2004 US banknote? You use the Canon MP480 as a copier? Just press the button and get a color copy of a FRN (Federal Reserve Note; not really "United States")? But when you goto scan, it stops, where.... halfway? at what point? Thanks!
Man, I hear you ! When I got Win 7, I lost a lot of my hardware simply because it was not compatible or updated drivers didn't exist. I guess you are supposed to toss everything at 2-3 year intervals and start from scratch ?
What kind of hardware doesn't Win 7 have drivers for? Did you manage to find a motherboard with ISA slots? Or a VESA video card slot? When I bought my new motherboard three years ago, I was forced to give up all of my ISA hardware. :-( However, Win 7 still has drivers for my 1992 vintage HP LJ4 printer as well as my aging HP scanner. My biggest problem with Win 7 is that my favorite game (Cue Club, a billiards game) doesn't run, even in XP compatibility mode and it won't run on a virtual machine because the virtual machine has a goofy video driver. Oh yeah, there's the other problem that when I dusted off my Visual Basic disk to write a little program, it won't run on Win 7 and neither will any of the old programs that I wrote in Visual Basic. Oh, two more problems. They really screwed up the search function in Windows. It used to be pretty powerful. Search for "abcd" in a*.doc with text boxes for each option. I understand that you can do complex searches but you need to know the syntax. This is like going back to Unix and searching with grep. Other little things like the changes in Media Player bother me or the confusing (to me at least) changes to the mixer for sound. Other than those irksome things, Windows may finally be where it should have been ten years ago.
Yep, that's what happens.... doesn't matter if it's the original or a copy of the original, I get the message that the scan was incomplete because it was cancelled. But, I can immediately scan an old note with not problem. I'll see if I can do a video of it tonight just so you can see the steps I go through. The scan stops at about the halfway mark, sometimes sooner.
Little things like my web cams. Both suddenly became useless. My TV tuner won't receive off cable. The system crashes when it scans up to channel 3. My son had some games that cause fatal system errors on his. I spent a lot of time trying to recover the boot driver. I am not really fond of it yet, but am learning. I still like XP for working with my spreadsheets, the laptop I use moves the cursor to where I am not working sometimes if I brush the touch pad, etc. My friend, an child advocate attorney (instructor) swears by MAC. I just don't know. Bought a bunch of new gadgets, but I shouldn't have had to. Now I am even having a glitch with my mic and headset. lol Hope I don't need to upgrade that also ?
new scanners and printers will not scan alot of US and world notes. There is no rhyme or reason as to which notes can or cant be scanned or printed. Most newer US notes cannot be scanned (by some makes and models) and some printers wont print, but others will. World note is also a hit and miss game. When this assault on our hobby first started, the Eurion symbol was though to be blamed. It has moved so far beyond that! The tricks being used today lie in very specific color spectrums, and a combination of any number of the older anti-counterfeiting tricks. Try scanning a note that wont scan and a scanner that will... scan it using different colors, blocking out the others. You might be surprised at the images that pop up. I found a website a long tiem ago that showed samples of what could be found on world notes that newer scanners wont scan. It was simply amazing. I only wish i could find the site again! My troubles started a few years ago when my Epson refused to scan. A few months ago i bought a $300 Canon praying i could resume a 100% legal activity. Remember, its not a crime to scan notes, only to print them with the intent of passing them off as real. Even possessing a fake note is not illegal! My new $300 Canon is a dead deal too im afraid. It will not scan newer notes. Canon told me its not a warranty issue because it was designed that way. Class action lawsuit? Can a suit be brought against a company for blocking an action that is not deemed illegal? The scanner company's do not say up front that the scanners are built to block scanning of curreny ..... so when we buy them thinking we can, and they wont refund the sale.... makes em wonder! Given enought time, all printers and scanners wont funtion as we would like.
As I said before, it is bothersome when the government and industry collude to stop legal activities because some may turn those activities to nefarious purposes. They tried it with speed governors on cars. They do it with guns, crying out that the legal activities of the many need to be curtailed because of the illegal activities of the few. How many parents are afraid to punish their children because of their fear of government intervention? In my 30 years of adulthood, I've watched the country and the world slide into a he11 of government control of "legal" activities and I can't see it getting any better for my kids. I can only see it getting worse. They won't even have to charge you with a crime to make your life interesting. With the 4th amendment being eroded as much as they've been doing, the Secret Service will come visit you when you send your friend a scan of the interesting bill that you found today. They'll spend 20 hours interrogating you and to prevent that from happening again, you won't scan any more bills. A "victory" for the government because they've intimidated the law abiding. However, the lawless won't care and will find ways around the strictures of the power elite no matter what safeguards are put in place. Yes, I wear a tin foil hat.
