That is one of the reasons, why the mint has not decided upon a price., the Silver and Gold prices may price them right out of being able to fix a price just yet. Probably by the middle of November we should have some stability in these markets, perhaps even a slight drop down. But drop down from where is the question.

No doubt and no offense taken. From a pure bullion investing perspective these are probably not the best investment in silver one could make. I suspect these will come with a hefty premium initially. However the Mint has been ordered by Congress to produce these coins for the next 10 years to reflect the national parks quarters so over time there could be quite a numismatic value on these coins that a simple art bar would not have. I do believe, though I might be wrong, that the coins will be given legal tender status and while this should be meaningless, it does establish a status that people will pay extra for. People love to collect coin sets, and these have the potential to be quite a coin set from the Mint.

If these 5 oz. AtB bullion pieces carry a significant premium compared to other 5 oz. bullion pieces, why over pay for it when you can buy a 5 oz. Sunshine mint bar for about $135 right now? It's the same silver for WAY less money out of pocket if all you want is to show off a 5 oz. silver paper weight as you put it. :rollling:

My coffee cup will fit better on the ATB better than on the sunshine bar.

Many question the idea of slabbing bullion, but if there's a product out there that the TPGs can make some money on and dealers can benefit from too, then I'm sure TPGs will be along swiftly with a holder to fit and certify large bullion coins too, if not already available upon request.

APMEX is just down the street from me here in Edmond. I asked him about them a couple of days ago, and he said they still have not been told when to expect them.

32 days till year end, and it is my understanding, that is how many days the Mint has to sell the 5 oz ATB bullion coins. The Mint is required by an act of Congress, to make and sell the coins in the year of mintage.

These coins are interesting to me as a collector rather than as a bullion investor.

So...the Big question is why is the Mint so quiet, no secretive about the release date, and pricing of these coins?

Will the only packaging be bullion tubes?

Is there any possibility for the Mint to sell these coins on their web site? A mintage of 100,000 per coin is a very low mintage for the normal bullion distribution channels.

So many questions and total silence from the US Mint?...Why?

It is my understanding that these will only be available through the mint's authorized resellers. Basically this means that they could wait until Dec 31st to "sell" them to the resellers who will then make them available (next year) for anyone willing to pay the premium until they run out... could be 5 minutes, could be 5 months...

It clearly will not be announced this month, so it could not possibly come to light in the next 5 minutes nor the remaining 33 hours of the month of November as the US Mint has concluded their product releases for November.

As you can tell from this article, there remains only speculation in the numismatic publishing community and no word about these coins from the Mint on whether/when they will be released:

US Mint November 2010 Coin Product Releases End, December in Focus from CoinNews.net [11/26/2010]

Subtract weekends and any Federal holidays and you are left with only 23 business days in December, that is if Friday 12/24 and Friday 12/31 are business days at the Mint. The number could be 21 business days.

With all those POPULAR Lincoln products coming out for the holiday I doubt the Mint will pair up any of those four days with an announcement or release of the Parks bullion coins.

Remove four more days from December and you are down to 17 business days.

As I understand it, typically, the authorized bullion dealers who buy from the Mint must do so in large increments of 25k units. It wouldn't be too hard, unless limited by the Mint, for one bullion dealer to dominate this release and set prices accordingly to their profit potential. I think some might be stunned at possible retail prices once put into those channels. Just something to think about...

I would think that the mint would allow each of their regular bullion dealers an opportunity to have a chance to purchase. One would think that with certain items such as this, the bullion dealers would be regulated to a percentage above spot that can charge above. I wonder if anyone here knows the mint's rules regarding an item such as these. Then again, they have never had anything like this.

I wish the mint would just sell to the public until after Dec 31st, but I guess that's not gonna happen. I guess it's possible they could scrap the thing completely. It seems to be getting more common all the time that they just decide not to produce an item.
At least these wouldn't leave empty holes in lifelong collections.
