Where do you keep your Gold Bullion in case of an extreme emergency?

What are some good locations in order to keep your Gold Bullion accessible and safe, if there is a major government or world economic meltdown. A bank would not be a sound idea since they may not reopen for some time, (i.e. safety deposit boxes). It would have to be some where on your property for easy access and not in a safe, as they can be found and be broken into or removed from the property. Remember, with Anarchy in the streets, the police department will be busy elsewhere, (and probably working short handed). One thought I had would be a ground level air supply vent. You could just remove the vent cover when necessary and keep the bullion about 3 feet back into the vent so it couldn't be seen. I know this scenario is somewhat extreme, but like an asteroid hitting the Earth, it is possible. Consider it a "what if" or theoretical question if don't believe it can happen. :dismay:

I honestly keep gold hidden in my house. But if an asteroid hits earth im not gonna worry about gold. Every man for themselves...

The more one worries about where to store one`s gold, the more sleep one will lose. Depending on how much You have, You probably have hundreds of hiding spots in Your house should it get broken into. The kitchen is always a good spot as few thieves will look into the cupboard with the pots and pans for PMs.

(saltysam...I see You`re from Lisle....is that the same town that the automotive tools are made in?)

I'm keeping mine in the safe deposit box. If something major happens as you suggest, I bet my canned food in the pantry will have more value than some useless bullion anyways.

not meaning to bash on the op but isn't this thread basically a "here's where I hide my PM's in my house come take them away please!"

btw I hide my pm's out in plain sight...so if you don't see them I don't have any...

I have four locked tool boxes at work and keep $150K worth of TGS slabbed old US coins and some gold and platinum bullion in two small hand carried tool boxes in one of the drawers. My tool boxes are located in a restricted area and prefer this method rather than a bank security box or my home. A bank security box comes under ultimate control of the FED should something happen to me and my home just seems too risky. Keeping them in two small tool boxes inside a big locked tool box allows quick retrieval should something happen to my employment.

Most of my gold is in Krugerrands that I keep strapped to the copper pipes in my house.

    hmm..
interesting, how about a golden money belt?

Then a crook would have to kill you to get it, and them you wouldn't have to worry.

Hide it in the freezer, inside a turkey. Who looks inside a turkey?:D

That way when the power goes out and you throw out the ruined turkey, or you forget & cook the turkey, or you "lend" the turkey to a neighbor......:headbang:

Maybe that's not such a good idea after all.

Doomsday? Anarchy? Maybe I'll melt mine down into bullets so I can shoot my way out of here and hold up my neighbors for food. If they live they can pluck the gold slugs from themselves and keep them, but I'll be eating.

Years ago it was suggested that gold coins be stored in PVC pipe with a cap on each end and buried in a secret location. Same for small quantities of ammo.

However, I know some people prefer a floor safe. Perhaps in a Garage concealed by something heavy like a tool chest ?

However, here they have 24 hour accessible vaults. A private company advertises this type of vault storage with 24/7 access. And I believe it's all done with numbers instead of names ? I would check into something along those lines.

Benny Benion Jr. Built an underground concrete bunker and buried a few million dollars ($5-6 oz) silver in that. But I wonder how he kept the location secret ?

My grandfather did exactly that, until my dad convinced him it wasn't necesarry. Personally i use a floor safe that is pretty well disguised in the basement.

As we know about it, seems Binion's security was blown long ago.
