Today UPS delivered my 2010 American Eagle Gold Proof Four-Coin Set . I didn't open the package because I had to meet a friend. After picking up my buddy, while I'm driving, I asked to him to carefully open the package. He was underwhelmed by the contents of the album. I glanced over and saw him attempting to remove the 1oz coin from the album. I told him all he had to was flip the page over and he could see the backs of the coins. He then replaced the album in the mint box then the UPS box.

When I got home I immediately opened the boxes to check out the coins. First thing I noticed was the plastic page frame holding the coins was pulled any at the top from the frame that held it in the album. I can't repair it because the hole in the plastic was enlarged from pulling on the plastic page frame holding coins. I believe this happened when my buddy was attempting to remove the top coin from the album. I called the Mint and was told they would send a replacement as soon as they receive my coins at the mint.
The set I received is immaculate except for the page holding the coins.
I bummed out because I may receive a set that is in not as good shape as the one i sent back.

I was going to post a scanned image of the coins but three of the four coins are completely washed out because of the clear plastic holder I suppose.

    A real bad day. . . . .

This is a bit of advice I learned a long time ago. When ordering really high dollar coins like you did, I expect nothing but perfection. If I don't get perfection, then I reorder another set. Years ago, I would send back my set and wait for a replacement. Then one day while talking with a Mint customer service rep, she advised me that I should always order another set before sending back anything. This way, I am assured that I definitely have a set in hand and that I get the coins I want. So basically, my advice to you is to order another set and wait until it comes in so you can inspect all your coins. You can pick and chose the best coins and then send back the set or coins you don't want. Even if the price of gold/platinum goes up, you will still get a credit for the last set you bought. All you are out is shipping/handling....a small price to pay for perfection.

That's good advice. I'll order another set this evening however i believe I need to return the set I have soon because of the seven day return policy.

Midas, thats the beautiful thing about doing it this way! You don't need to return your set until your replacement set comes in.

Let me give you an example. A few weeks ago I ordered two First Spouse coins. When they came in, they weren't up to my standards. So I waited a few weeks. Since then, the price of gold went up and so did the price of the coins. I finally got around to ordering some replacements and when they came in they were gorgeous so I kept them and just returned the ones I didn't want. It doesn't matter that the price went up because I am returning the same two coins that I just purchased and I will get a refund for the last price I paid. Get it?

OK, Jaceravone I get it. thanks

Just ordered another four coin set (PG5) and was told they have 9,300 sets left.
After it arrives I'll check it out then take it to a coin shop where i do a lot of business and have them check it out.

Now you need to show us the coins when they come in! :D

If the coins are truly that high of a grade, bust the set open and submit them. Get them slabbed individually. When you go to sell them, I believe you will get a much greater return on individual high grade coins than as a set. IMHO

Will do. I tried scanning the four coins in the holder but the scanner washed out three of the four coins. I'll have to photograph them. After several attempts I was finally able to take decent photographs of my French art medals then dismantled the rig. looks like I'll have to set it up again.

interesting idea about breaking them out . The coins really do look good though in most cases I can't tell the difference between ms69 and ms70. By the time i pay for grading and shipping I wonder if it'll be worth it.

I noticed some minor flaws in one of my sets, so it may need returning. Is a proof 70 coin COMPLETELY without even a minor pit that you cannot see without a loop? I saw some two or three pinpoint sized pits on the fields, and so will this coin be a Pf69? Also, the cameo on the design appears to be that laser etched variety like the Presidential Dollar proofs, and is this gonna be on ALL the new proofs? It is not nearly so nice as the old style, but if it is the first of the new series, I hate to send it back.
