how much would you pay for W mint ASE's?
I want cold hard numbers I'm trying to get a good generalization on where prices should be and not based on the frenzy of newbies or people that don't know what they are doing
think of this as purely investment please
I also understand that some that post here might not know good prices and either say WAY more or WAY less then these are valued at my the consensus
please don't coach me or explain to me anything... just post your prices for the below mentioned.

    2006 W mint box
    2006 W ngc 69
    2006 W ngc 70
    2006 W pcgs 69
    2006 W pcgs 70

    2007 W mint box
    2007 W ngc 69
    2007 W ngc 70
    2007 W pcgs 69
    2007 W pcgs 70

    2008 W mint box
    2008 W ngc 69
    2008 W ngc 70
    2008 W pcgs 69

let's see what we can come up with.. and please STAY ON TOPIC...if you want to go off topic you can make your own thread. :D

You really have to find the right person to be perfectly honest. I just think of ASEs as boullion, as they were originally intended. I also think they make great gifts for a mile marker in someone's life. If there is a premium on a "W" minted ASE, I'd probably pass on it.

'06, '07, '08 W's. The collector version. First of all I wouldn't buy 'em slabbed. Gonna cost you too much "jing". Buy 'em in OGP. You're probably still gonna pay more than if you had originally ordered them from the mint. I think the '06 and '08 are gonna carry a premium.....'06 because it's the first year of issue and '08 because the mint slammed the door on availability of these pieces early in the year citing, high public demand for bullion products. Quick check around town on these and I come up with this:

    '06w (ogp): $75
    '07w (ogp): $30-$35
    '08w (ogp): $36-$40

If you want the '08w with '07 reverse thats gonna cost you big time.....$400-$450.

I agree with your prices here Ken and we are talking about the UNC ASE's and not the proofs. You can still get the 2007 and 2008W's in the Annual Sets, the 2006W would be difficult! I bought the 07 and 08 in the OGP for cheaper than $35 or $40. This is the best way to buy them. My 2006W is graded but I bought it awhile back for a very decent price. I didn't buy my 2006 b/c it was graded tho'! Right after I got it the prices have bumped up to crazy money prices! There is no reason at all to buy the graded ones! The trio has a huge following!!:D just my 2 cnts

Its not bullion investing when you are talking about coins with large collector premiums over spot so i don't think this is the right place for this thread.

I think of business strike coins made after 1964 by the billions as spending money as they were originally intended but that does not make them any less collectible to some people and who am i to tell other people what to like?

Yes some ppl don't care that 2006=2008 is the only years or at least the most prominent years that have the W on the reverse of the coin. Sure some ppl say they were all minted at West Point and that's true but only these years prove it on the coin itself. Proofs have the W but not the UNC's.

IMHO the US Mint does this stuff intentionally to promote collecting of modern coinage. You can bring up other examples of things the mint did to promote interest and get the public to spend more money of their collectibles. I bought the trio because they have a following just like the 1996W dime does!

Well in that case why is there anything posted about Kookaburra's, panda's, buffaloes, and AGE's or any of the other bullion with large premiums?

also what if the mint does stop making American Silver Eagles and they start to have a large collector's premium on them all? would that mean we can't post about them either?

I think restricting topics about bullion based on premiums can easily get to the point of no information being shared. Also last I knew this we all came here for that exchange of information.

The '96 already has a large premium on it.

Although I would not mind owning the "W" ASEs......I just can`t bring myself to get any. I would not go $10 over spot for any of them.....but that`s just me....more of a bullion man. (and graded ASE proofs) I pick up common ASE`s for $2 over spot....how can I beat that?

I understand your not wanting to buy ALOT over spot price...I don't do it either...
I got 12 2007-W ASE's for a total of $327.28 with the average price each being $27.27 and 3 2008-W ASE's for $88.03 total with the average price each being $29.34... I just watch e-bay for deals and have gotten a couple of them from a dealer that cut the prices on them to make room in his case for other coins...
I'm pretty glad I got them all and none of them look like problem coins or are missing anything with the packaging being complete. really it's all about setting a "the highest price you'll pay and if it goes higher just walk away and wait for the next deal" and actually sticking to it :D

  19. Hello,

First off...I would pay no more than $65, top end, per ASE PR you listed above, if it was truly for an investment purpose, including the slabbed ones. Even with the silver boom they can be tough to unload unless you find a stated "frenzy of newbies". The "W" ASEs already come, at least 69 graded, from the mint in the box with the COA. I still don't know why anyone would waste their money getting the listed ASE's above graded for this reason (my opinion only)...unless of course you get a key date...i.e. 1995-W or even the 2008 reverse 2007. I used to send these in a while back and I never received less than a graded 69 in over 5 years of slabbing them. So to me it is a waste of money, MY OPINION ONLY, to send them in.

Second...I hesitated to even respond to your post due to your unpleasant way of asking for advice. As for the "frenzy of newbies" we must all remember at one point we were there also. Knowledge is power...pass it on instead of your "don't coach me or explain to me anything" because, you are the one asking here which obviously makes you the "newbie".

Thanks...now I am off to make my own thread.

@AlexN2coins.....Not bad at all. It sounds like ebay has been good to You.

The good deals that I get on ASEs are almost always a result of someone making room for newer stuff as well. As interest peaks for the newest releases, it wains a little with the older stuff. Next week I might have someone selling me a 96 ASE for $40....I`ll take that and run!

I think you are not getting my drift...there has been many times where threads get off topic right from the start and I simply just want cold hard facts based on the original thread... I don't mean to talk down to anyone I just want information regarding what I asked and don't want this to turn into a "don't buy that it's crap thread" either. I already made up my mind as to what I am buying for W mint American Silver Eagles... If I offended you in my original post I'm sorry that wasn't my point...I want to be constructive with this thread not destructive.

p.s. as for newbies in a buying frenzy...you honestly think new people that don't know the value of a coin or product don't artificially drive up the price or prices? I just want to eliminate that as a option in this post.
