It seems like you're still arguing against what you thought he said, instead of what he's actually saying.

He's got a budget of $2000/month for this. Right now, that lets him buy (approximately) one ounce per month.

If gold goes above $2000, he won't be able to do that. Instead, he'll buy a half-ounce each month. At that point, he'll be buying less gold, which is the point of dollar-cost averaging -- buy less when it's expensive, buy more when it's cheap.

If gold goes above $3000, with half-ounce coins over $1500, he'll slow his buying further, by switching to quarter-ounce coins.

If gold goes above $4000, he'll stop buying entirely.

Yes, the premiums are higher on fractional weights -- but if you don't have the budget for a full ounce, you can either buy smaller, or not buy at all. And those premiums do apply to some degree in both directions -- that is, you get some of it back when you sell.

If you have several thousand dollars
to buy all at one time ( some do )
that’s one thing, but if your budget
is one once a month, then it really
doesn’t matter as long as it stays
with in the amount you can afford :)

I'm totally understanding what he said. My argument stands. If he can only afford $2k/month, if Au hits $4k, then just hold onto your first month's $2k and buy your one ounce the next month with your two month allocation.

No matter how you slice the total pie, his way makes no sense and is fiscally unsound. If he wants to stack with that strategy it's obviously his prerogative and no one can say it's wrong. Just not even close to optimal.

Exactly!! I do it all the time. Don’t buy 1 month and buy the next month. You’ll have twice as much cash so you can afford that higher price coin.

Maybe the last time that you jumped into the pool, you mistook the shallow end for the deep end but be that as it may, I don't really care if it makes sense to you, it makes perfect sense to others who buy gold every month based on their budget.

Fiscally sound or not, I don't really care. DCA with monthly purchases has worked for me during the last 16 years that I've been collecting. My bad for sharing my thoughts in an open forum where "teachers" can stand in judgement and belittle new members to the cheers from their peanut gallery.

I'll just keep on hustling like always and keep my mouth shut. I don't need another public slap from the "teacher."

I'm not mad at all. I just take offense when an old man in his basement typing on his workbench, thinks that he is the final word on the best way to do things.

It's sad but I'm not mad at all.

There will always be blowhards and "educators" like that. Those "know it all's" are what drove me from college and led me to start my own business. I've learned to have a Teflon coating. Ha. Let him blow till his little heart is content. His flock will appreciate his next pontification. I'm sure.

    Cheers.

It is time for a Charley Talk.

A collector has a budget that allows for the purchase of $2,000.00 per month, after budgeting for necessary life expenses; food, shelter, healthcare, future emergency expenses, etc.

The person is VERY VERY fortunate. The person should be gracious and understand that other persons may not be as fortunate, and marvel at the ability to do so, and to purchase items at a price that causes the average collector to question the strategy.

College is not required to understand the reason for questions. College is not even necessary to understand how to answer. Life experience is required for both, though.

It has been my experience that someone that has experienced life longer than I have, is older and may have an opinion that I can benefit from (even if that Old Guy is kept in the basement by his wife because he has an Old Man Odor. PS: She is right, but still...).

He knows stuff, or would not have made it thru 53 years of cohabitation with the Wicked Witch.

This has been a Charley Talk.

    Charley,

I love old people. I happen to be an old person myself. I dropped out of college in 1988 and I'm now on my 3rd career. I have life experiences and opinions as well.

Look, I get it. I had the misfortune to cross paths with an institution. A forum God who is not used to being questioned. I get it. Just because you are old and have an opinion doesn't mean that your opinion is the Gospel and those that don't agree with you deserve to be mocked and disrespected.

Like I said, it's ok. Now that I know that his status and the minions that flock around him. His henchmen, if you will, who will pile on the victim to defend their God when he has mounted his bully pulpit to pontificate. It's crystal clear. I'll steer clear of his kind. It's just coins. This might be his forum and his domain but to me, it's just coins.

Stop there...you are not old. The Wicked Witch would categorize you as NYBI (Not Yet Broken In).

I thought that if you made a groaning noise whenever you sat down or stood up, you were pre-qualified as old.

58 sure feels old. Ha. I even have an AARP card.

A little thin skinned there Andy?

DCA is absolutely a tried and true method for accumulating wealth. I've been doing it for over 40 years. With a bit of tweaking you can make your DCA strategy pay off better. The problem is, you apparently don't care to hear about improvements. You'd rather stand on a mountain shouting look at me!

FYI, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg both dropped out of college too. So college isn't a prerequisite for being able to learn or to succeed in life. So go cry me a river about being chased from college. It seems you've been scarred with an inferiority complex ever since 1988.

BTW it seems your 'teflon' coating is all scratched up. A teflon coating would mean you didn't get all bothered by something. It's quite obvious there's chinks in your armor.
