What does this 80 S Morgan grade at NGC?

For PL coins, in it appears to me that NGC is more concerned about clean fields. The fields look wonderful on this coin, and the mark on the cheek is really not that bad. Also, there really aren't any other distracting marks. So I think they will let the cheek mark slide and give it a 66PL

Could be dmpl if the mirrors are deep enough.

65 PL IMO. That is one beautiful Morgan, though! Love the frosty surfaces.

Love the proof-like strike both sides - the bag mark on the chin/cheek, not so much. What is all that chatter in the fields (both sides) - if not a bad cleaning, is it die wear/polishing? If not a harsh cleaning, ms64pl.

Really, it looks MS-63 PL to me, but I've never been accused of being to lenient. But with Matt's NGC track record of late, it will be MS-66 PL.

Just OT for a second. Whatever it grades---65 or 66 and with or w/o prooflike designation, it is a magnificent coin!

1880-S is considered the best struck coin in the Morgan series.

The mirrors on this coin definitely put in contention for a DMPL designation. I'm hoping for 65/66 DMPL... that would make my pocket book pretty happy. Bought it raw at a coin show from a dealer for MS64 bid.

Cheek looks good enough to me. Wonder if the rim nicks will hold it back (which I didn't notice the first time I viewed the photo).
