Today is the day for coins dated 1893!

Today is the day for 1893! Donwonbob finds an 1893 V nickel, and I find this:

    2013-04-05 copy.jpg

An 1893 Columbian Exposition commemorative half dollar! I could not believe it! I found 9 part silver half dollars at one bank, a 1964 and 4 more part silver half dollars at a second bank, then 11 more 40%ers, a dateless Walker AND the 1893 commemorative at the last bank! This is my second commemorative half found in circulation and my oldest half dollar to date!

Add to that 5 silver dimes and it proves one thing:

There is still good stuff out there! Keep looking and find yours!

My bank back ordered My half's again Loomis is their suppler I'm not sure why they keep doing this, there must be a big run on half's or something.

With that said I grabbed a box of Nickels and I found 2 Wars and about 20 between 1940 & 1959.

I think with these two Wars I have a full roll

I want My Half's they said Tues so we shall see.

I just filled My roll of War Nickels, Now here is the Question for you nickels hunters. All the War Nickels I have found are 1945, all but one 1944 is it just the area that I collect in or are you finding more of the 1945 war nickles then other dates?

I've only found 1943 in bank boxes in my area.

I have found all the 1942-5 dates and mintmarks over time. The D mintmarks are the scarcest mintages and that is reflected in finds too. I'd say a rough estimate from the several hundred I have is that about 55-60% are P, 35-40% are S mint, and about 5% are D mintmark.

Well it finally happened to me...I stopped by a new WF in my area looking for loose halves, the teller asked me if I wanted $60's worth. I said sure...thinking they probably are someone's dump. I opened them up in my car and couldn't believe what I saw! Not as good as some of the other bank finds posted here...but certainly my best teller finds:

    1 44' walker looks chromed
    1 63' Bennie
    1 76' silver...almost missed it!
    7 40%ers

While I was in doing a dump today at My Credit Union, I ran into a guy that was unloading 50 box's of Half's to dump.
I got to talking to him and asked him where he was getting his box's from and he said Wells Fargo :( that is where I have been buying from so now I know why My box's have been so pitiful he is buying in Major Bulk. He told Me he marked some of the coins and I have been getting tons of marked coins and he has been getting his own marked coins back. I think that is why Loomis has back ordered My half's 2 times in the last few weeks, He is buying them all up.

I hope I don't start getting skunked on My box's from here on out.

    hard to find good stuff

    20 boxes of halves. Box 1= 1 40%
    Box 2 = 1 40%
    Box 3 = 3 40%
    Box 4 thru 17 = Pepe Lepew
    Box 18 = 2 40%
    Box 19 = 1982-S, 1987-S, 1992-S, 2005-S
    Box 20 = 2 40%, 1972-S, 1776-1976-S Clad.

I'm concerned boys & girls that the big banks (like Chase) have turned wraping machine to sort out the silver halves in my area. I went to the O.C. to the BREA MALL to get some boxes with no luck.

Nice "V" tabor, it's in great condition for a 105 year old circulated coin!

By no means am i an expert, but i don't think the other nickel is clipped based on the cusped edge and uneven wear around it. Others may have a better idea.

A good picture of the whole coin, would help to determine if it is a clip.
