Shoot...I hope this isn't a repeat. Long thread!

Here's an 181.7 Capped Bust half. It's raw (now) but BB'd when I shot this...for an old, wipe. Still, it is one I like a lot whatever the TPG's say, dammit!

Ikeigwin; you have a beautiful half dollar that looks completely natural to me. That coin is definitely a keeper, but if you ever decide to sell, would you please give me the opportunity to purchase it from you first?

Hello Dwhiz; I don't think I have ever seen a silver dollar with that wood type toning on it. It does tend to inhibit the natural beauty of the coin in mint state and I can see why you are unhappy with it. I think we have all made regrettable choices in our past, so don't feel to bad about it.

 

Stunning color! I just love blue nickels, blue cents, anything toned blue! Great acquisition Wooleytree.

 

Saw this one at CoinZip.

I truly thought PCGS would give it a grade. The toning masks enough evidence of cleaning to be suitable for a grade, as far as I'm concerned.

Grade or no grade, it's still a real eye-catcher! :thumb:

I'm a little bummed, to be honest. There are no hairlines. PCGS feels it has been cleaned and while I wouldn't argue with that (how many 200 year old coins haven't been?) I have seen much worse cleanly graded.

Still, it is about the coin, not the holder. So I'll just have to enjoy it raw. More fun, in many ways, you know?

Yeah, I feel ya.

I think we can all empathize with you, or at least those of us who submit coins to PCGS regularly.

God knows I've seen worse "cleaned" coins in PCGS holders (with numeric grades) than your piece, but that's just the name of the game - you win some, you lose some - And, unfortunately, it's always the one's that you want in a holder the most that get B.B'd, and vice versa... :rollling:

But if this were my 181.7 and I sent it out and it got B.B'd, I'd be pretty bummed too. :so-sad:

Thanks, I realy don't have any regrets about the purchase just reminds me to be more careful. It was a inexpensive lesson
