Just finished compiling information about the guy on this coin:

KM 62.2 Cyprus 20 Cent Coin Depicting The Stoic Philosopher Zeno of Citium

a lot of MODERN Cyprus coins have an ancient themes like this one...

It came to mind that Israeli coins also tend to use ancient themes, often emmulating coins they struck in antiquity:

KM 111 Modern Israel 1 Shekel Historical Motif Depicting Omer Cup

ancient example if an 1/8th Shekel showing the Omer Cup minted during the Jewish war with an inscription that reads in Hebrew "to the redemption of Zion."

KM 11 Modern Israel 10 Prutah Historical Motif Depicting Amphora

an ancient example if a prutah showing an amphora minted in 69 A.D., the year of the Emperor Nero's death and during the "Jewish Wars".

KM 15 Modern Israel 250 Prutah Historical Motif Depicting Grain

an ancient example if a prutah showing three grain stalks minted around 41 A.D., Under King Herod Agrippa I (the Great) King of the Jews and friend of Rome.

there are more, most israeli coins have an ancient counter part...even the reverses can be found on ancient coins:

coin was struck some time under Nero and shows the use of the wreath. Its a coin of Marcus Julius Agrippa or King Herod Agrippa II, seventh and last king of the family of Herod the Great. It was before this king loyal to the Romans that Paul pleaded his cause at Caesarea Palaestina.

This coin is a prutah struck between 40 and 37 B.C. under Mattathias Antigonus that depicts the menorah, a symbol that now appears in some form on all modern Israeli coinage.

feel free to most other examples...:)

The Greek Euro coins also use ancient themes as well, especially the 1 Euro coin, which depicts an Athenian Tetradrachm.

Here are one Russian coin and medal that commemorates ancient theme: (note carefully of the ancient theme - it's pretty interesting)
