some 1997 cents also have a nice doubled ear . the coin in this thread is not a doubled ear , something has bumped into the bottom of the ear lobe. it does look like it may be one of the many types of doubled die coins because the left side of the Y in liberty is wider looking than the right side.
This is post mint damage, or a "hit" that makes it resemble a second earlobe. The series has plenty of them, not just 1984. There are strong doubled earlobes on 1941, 1988, 1997, and 2006 to name a few.
