hello everyone. i'm new to collecting and found this cent in a roll. is this what they mean when they say grease strike? the d in united all the way to of is barely visible. any value in keeping if so? thanks in advance.
And why is 'value' subscript for collecting coins? The devil of personal gain is abhorrent, at least to me. Collecting, in it's purest sense, is subject less to value and more to the love of the hobby and collecting. Ya ain't gonna get rich in this platform.......
That's a weak area on the coins reverse design so it doesn't take much to get this result. No added value or NAV. Very common. Welcome to CT.
As @Collecting Nut said, it is likely due a weak strike or lack of metal flow, not a filled die. Look at the obverse opposite the weakness. Lincoln's shoulder needs a lot of metal to fill it. The metal starts flowing into there before the rev letters are completely filled. It's common and adds no value BTW: most errors you'll find will have very little, if any added value. It's unusual to find something that will sell on eBay for enough to cover your costs, yet alone have a dealer interested in buying. Occasionally it happens, but those occurrences are rare. That's the part the "Get Rich From Pocket change" hacks never tell you on YouTube
